Hi Friends,

I am having one Abu Garcia Cardinal spinning reel.
Have not used it much. The problem I see with it is the spool does not have front/back motion when I rotate the handle.
So the line distribution on the spool is not homogeneous. It keeps on accumulating at on place
It was working earlier.

I am based out of Bangalore and need suggestion/some one who can fix my spinning reel.

best regards
Fisgergomian

The spool movement is controlled by a cam assembly which is fixed to the main shaft of reel a screw. In case your spool is not moving while you are cranking the handle, either the cam assembly is broken or the screw has come off.

Open your reel and then remove the drive gear. Below the drive gear is the cam assembly. Check it. The chances are your cam assembly (Driver or gear) is broken. You can not do any thing except replace the same. In case the screw connecting the driver with the main shaft has come off, tighten it and your reel will be as good as new.

Here is a link for Reel maintenance.

Hope this will help.

Regards,

Ali.

Hi Ali,

Thank you very much for the information.
I tried opening the reel once ,But did not go that deep in the reel.
The pictures in the link look almost same as reel was looking from inside.
I am going to refer and fix my reel with the information.

best regards

Hi Ali,
I this evening opened my reel completely and found that the screw for the driver crank came out completely.
Reason the point on the reel's inner wall where the screw gets tightened up was ruptured. I tried to fix that with super glue. No use as one single rotation broke it again.
I will miss my reel it was a gift

As the topic of reparing reel has come
i got an issue with my reel

i have a rapala reel
after landing a 5kg cat this issue with the reel started
now when im hooked on to a fish.. handel of the reel get stuck and in between while reeling in the fish
i mean reeling small fish will make the reel stuck----free----stuck---free
and there is no smooth functioning of the reel

i did oil the reel and did autopsy of the reel and found nothing unusual....
tried again
initially reel was as good as new and functioning smoothly
but again after some time same thing happened....

what could be the reason?
please help me with the issue
thanks in advance.

Try casting and retrieving to determine if you feel the glitch is in the spool section or its main gear section (down portion). There could be many reasons why your reel is not running smooth. It could be because due to damaged pinion gear or the drive gear open up the lower portion to see if you find any bend in the teeth of these gears. Only personal assessment will determine the underlying cause of the malfunction.
