No they don't even worms don't work on MJ's. Use small fish or shrimp, they prefer fish.

My personal experience, I have caught many small MJ's on worms, 1 good sized on a prawn. And abt atta, hajaam's take them greedily, those zebra striped fish which come along with the rising tide.

That is interesting, I have fished a lot in my earlier days with worms in MJ infested water not a single on did I take, if I switched to Motka would always catch them.

Have you personally caught any on worms?

I did catch a small MJ on atta long back. The reason i think that MJ took the atta was because a small hotel near by would dump leftover food in the very same spot.

Motka is the local name for a small baitfish like Anchovy, they are caught in special nets around Bombay the net is between two sticks of about 2 - 3 feet called "Golba" and it is the classic way of catching them. The net is held in one hand with the sticks (albiet thick) like you would chop sticks. You hold a stick in the other hand and frighten these fish into your net.

It is really classic, the golba fisherman striking classic poses as he scares fish into his net. I have done this, it is loads of fun.

If it is a theoretical question then surely can catch small MJ's and Reef Cod on Atta bait but why would one want to try Atta when other much better baits like prawns, mullets or sardines are easily available.

MJ,s do take worms. The most famous bunch of anglers, who spend a week or two near temple rock, Mudh, since many years, use saltwater worms to catch good MJ,s on there fancy bamboo rods.

Regards,

Ali.
