Hi Guys,

Need some suggestions. I've got a Diawa EmcastPlus 6000 reel. It looks like a bit heavy for spinning all day. Can this reel be used for surfcasting If yes then can you please suggest what spec rod should I match it with out of these below?

BERKLEY PRO SELECT
PSS802MHA 8.0” 2 MH 17-40
PSS902MHA 9.0” 2 MH 17-40
PSS1002MHA 10.0” 2 MH 17-40

ABU GARCIA CONOLON PREMIUM
CNS802MHA 8.0” 2 MH 10-25

ABU GARCIA TOURNAMENT SPINNING
TS802HA 8.0” 2 H 17-40
TS902HA 9.0” 2 H 17-40
TS1002HA 10.0” 2 H 17-40

ABU GARCIA NITROUS ROD
NTS802MHA 8.0” 2 MH 10-25
NTS902MHA 9.0” 2 MH 10-30
NTS1002MHA 10.0” 2 MH 10-30

And can you guys please suggest specs for spinning rod/reel to target MJ's and Groupers?

Many thanks in advance.

Inder, IMHO none of these would be ideal. I'm using a Bimini Bay Tsunami Trophy Series Surf Spinning Rods, 11 foot. Get it from the US, well worth it.

I Would any day go for the 10' or higher rod as with a heavier reel it is easier to cast with a longer rod. I have a Saltstriker which is 27.9 oz in weight so I use a Kingkat 10' rod with it, and it does pretty well.

So either go for:

BERKLEY PRO SELECT
PSS1002MHA 10.0” 2 MH 17-40

ABU GARCIA TOURNAMENT SPINNING
TS1002HA 10.0” 2 H 17-40

ABU GARCIA NITROUS ROD
NTS1002MHA 10.0” 2 MH 10-30

Cheers,

Chris

Tsunami Rods are anytime better. If you have a option of DAIWA EMCAST 9" or more go ahead its a good rod I use it myself. The reason being the guide exactly the same was a tsunami like 2 arms supporting from down and one from top heres the link to these rods.

penn Spinfisher or penn power stick surf rods will be best bang for money.

BTW, I just landed a 36 LB Catla on a USD 21 rod.. 3 years old and have taken lot's of big MJ, groupers, Queenfish, barracuba, barramundi, rohu. mrigal...... Mangur, and now a Catla.. if I was you, I'll put my money on Spinfisher 10 ft 2 to 5 Oz lure weight 15 to 30 LB. light weight and will cast like a dream.

if u could look at the daiwa beef stick i am sure u wont be disappointed. it is heavy though. the 9 ftr is rated from 2-6 oz.
the rod cant be cast all day as in the one recommended by santosh. i start getting sweaty after about 50 casts or so.

Ditto I would also suggest the penn spinfisher two pc or { pure fishing } Berkley 5000 surf series telescopic rods, they are very light but equally strong
keep on casting from dawn till dusk
