Hi everyone.

Just after a bit of advice please for a trip i have planned in Feb 07 from you regular mahseer anglers.

When using a multiplyer for mahseer is it best to let the mahseer take the bait with reel in freespool, then knock it into gear after a few yards ? or fish with the mutiplyer in gear and strike when the fish takes the bait ?

Any advice would be much appreciated

Cheers

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

I do most of my mahseer fishing using a multiplier reel ..... the abu 7000/10000. When I'm fishing for Mahseer with ragi I tend to use the baitrunner as it gets quite difficult holding onto the rod and reel for long periods of time.
I usually have my rod in a stand a fot away from me so I can strike easily. No harm in letting the fish run with the bait. If its a proper bite you'll have the time to strike!!
While using live/dead bait in the rapids I fish with the main drag in play and do not use the baitrunner. Need to put the brakes on the fish when its in fast water.

Hope this has been of help?
Regards,
Mighty Marlin.

Hello Stuart,

My biggest Mahseer,a 37 lbs fish, was caught on a Penn 330 GTI multiplyer.I had the drag set but not too tight. Use your judgement depending on the rod and line you are using. There is no mistaking when a Mahseer takes the bait. Strike when the rod bends or the line is pulled out.
Enjoy the experience!!

Hi Stuart,
Not too much load on the drag when you hook one in fast water, or he will break the line faster than you can say "mahseer". Be prepared to tread water if you don't have a coracle around, take care this can be dangerous.
