hey mate
can anyone tell me how to check maximum allowable amount of drag that can be put on reel without damaging it?
i have an Okuma avenger AV50 and its maximum drag is not mentioned.
i just wanted to know how much maximum drag i can put on the reel.
thanks in advance

The drag set up is never of reel alone. Its a combination of rod and reel both. Fix your reel on the rod and after taking out the line, tie it with some fixed object. Pull the rod back and go on increasing the drag. You will come to know when the drag is not opening when you are pulling the rod. Just loosened the drag a bit and that is the maximum drag for that setup.

Hozefa,
The Okuma Avenger AV50, has a drag of 18lbs.
One usually sets the drag to 1/3 the breaking strength of your line.
