A relative is travelling back to India from Singapore, I want use the opportunity to get some spinner kits, Are French spinner kits similar to those available in Cabelas available in Singapore? Which is the most likely place where we can find them? I would also want some good quality treble hooks which brands are good? Also in general where to buy tackle in Singapore?

Thanks
Imran

Spinners are not readily available in Singapore.. I had a friend who returned from Singapore a few weeks ago and he could only get locally made spinners.. Mepps, Blue fox, etc are not available...

Cheers,
Alexis

I would be happy if I could get the lure making kit, I am more interested in building my spinners.

Hi Imran,

Singapore is a pretty diverse market, there are a lot of specialist shops around Beach Beach and Arab Street (which intersects Beach Road), check map below:

http://maps.google.com.hk/maps?hl=en&sa ... e&resnum=1

All you need would is time to go around looking and asking. If a shop does not have something you want, they may recommend another shop but you will find some (may be more) that will say not available in Singapore. Just like anywhere there are helpful people and not so helpful people. You need time and patience.

Try shops like Joe's fishing tackle, Hong Guan fishing shop, Sabre fishing. There is one on arab street where you can get trebles. He is the dealer for Mustad. Cant remember the name now.

Yep, Beach Road/Arab Street is definatly the area to shop in. Lots of good stuff to be had but make a list and shop around on an item by item basis and then go back and buy from whoever does the best deals.
Don't forget to ask for a deal and you should definatly check out Hock Ann Sports for cheap Shimano reels - not this years products but the prices are hard to beat.

There are other tackle shops about (there's one about 4km further up Beach Road) who sell some gear from specialist local manufacturers that might be hard to finf in the main center..

Oh, and for electrnics, steer clear of Orchard Road and pay a visit to Sil Lum Square.

Thanks everybody!

I hope I can educate my cousin enough with my limited knowledge and get the right tackle.

Thanks again,

Imran

There is also a Shimano original store very close to Mustafa. I can't remember the name or address but it is in the middle of a busy motor parts market. This store being wholesale dealers are cheaper and have more stock and offer great discounts if you buy in bulk. I got my Shimano Exage STC from there and they threw in a small reel, 200mtrs of 12 pound line and a box of hooks for free!

The down side is that they only stock Shimano stuff.
