Sometime ago I mentioned it was better to have a flying hook on all lures, especially for sol/murrel. The problem was when the lure was weedless. Here is a simple easy solution to the problem.

take a hook and a small good rubberband.

Tie the rubberband onto the top. Remember to stretch it tight.

Then take the other end of the rubberband and slip it behind the barb. the trick here is to give it a double twist around the barb.

Once you get a hang of it you'll do it with your eyes closed. And it is pretty effective. I have dragged hooks like this over all sorts of stuff and it snaps only when you get a bite and you set the hook.

Hope this helps.

Thats elegant.
I never did like the weedless hooks with the wire guards on them but i do like that.
I can see applications for fishing in the slop and weed in freshwater and for jigs fished vertically onto reef.
I'm sure Mighty Marlin and others know exactly what I'm thinking.....

hi ken...

really good idea ... guess what , i sorta did the same thing with my frog lure that in found while i was in mumbai. the hook on the frog is on the bottom and without a wire guard ..while fooling around with some rubber bands i got your idea..

i cast it into heavy weeds. it does work well. now i just nee to hook onto a fish.

your right its a bit tricky to do sepecially at the barb end.

i suppose a lot if good ideas come about when one has time to spare and is fooling around.

As I said Fred, it only snaps when she bites. And anyway with the missus it is better not to go 'weedless'.

Very nice Ken. [smilie=hellyeah.gif]

The next thing to experiment will be the colour of the rubber band.

Painting your rubber band with some natural colour will give you more chance.

Regards,

Ali.

Yup Alibhai,

Green, yellow or black are the best colours. I used a very large hook and a red rubberband to get better pictures.
