They are inducing a feeding frenzy by throwing cut bait into the water and then using a hook which looks like cut bait to haul the fish in.

they certainly induce feeding frenzy....but they throw live small fishes and the hook is barbless with flat shank around 1.5 to 2 inch long , it appears like a fish when dragged in water. this how they catch tuna in lakshadweep also....!!!

If I remember rightly, the method was used by Elvis in one of his movies - maybe Blue Hawai, or maybe not.

had seen the same technique used By researchers in one of Nation Geographic programs to catch Tunas & tag them,was hauling them using a 8 feet line with just a hook & No bait :?

seen people do a similar thing on the kerela backwaters. they throw in some dough in the margins and loads of small fish swoop to it. then they throw in just a hook on a line and the fish come to it thinking its food too. with a wild jerk they foul hook small fish. they seemed to make quite a mess unhooking the catch - having to pull hooks out of eyes and all.
