Hi guys !
Check out this fish, i nicknamed him grumpy, as i caught him very late one night, and even though he was a relatively small fish, he had me out wading through water for quite a while. I had only an old uncle with very poor aim to take the picture, and hence the tail of the fish was cut off in the picture. But what is of interest, is the face of the fish, note the upper lip. Man he doesen't have one. Unfortunately i let this fish off immediately after capture, due to there being no rope left to tie up any more. (This was the night i had 14 fish), only on checking the pictures after getting back to Bangalore, did i realize that i had caught a rare fish and let him off without taking more pix of his strange mug.

This one's a real freak!
I had second thoughts about the one i posted, because only the Catla has such a short upper lip. Could it have been a hybrid ??

Catla+Mahseer. That's a scary thought. I hope not.

Hi Belli,
No I checked to see if there was anything like that. No. It looked like a growth on the upper lip. Caught him on spinner so I guess it wasn't getting in the way of his feeding habits.

Regards,
Mighty Marlin.

Mighty M, I've seen a huge growth on the upper lip and another on the eye, of a couple of gold fish in an aquarium. The owner , my friend Chandru, a told me that it may be due to an infection/tumour as in humans...Yes the possibility of encrustations due to a hook-retained foreign body- is also possible.Did you check for a retained hook/tackle?
Beauty of a fish though!
Best
Axx

Taking a scratch mate!
Check out the power of my right hand, and you blokes call me old  Actually it was a cold night in December (20th 2005) to be precise, and the water was high and freezing cold, with slime and muck lining the banks at Haira, you can see the crap on my right hand.
The fish was slipping out when this picture was taken.
Had to do some juggling just after this pic to get control of the fish. [smilie=boggl3y3dummy-ani.gif]
Regards
Owen
