Henry and I arrived at the WASI Lake at 8:30 am on the 7th. Henry was into his first fish at 10:45 am. 2.5kg Rohu. I caught one small Murral on spinner at the lake. Later on at 12:30, I hooked a Rohu but lost it just before it was landed, it wasn’t hooked properly, Putta estimated it at 5kgs. Same story at 3:30 in the afternoon, hooked the fish, played it for 2 mins, then the hook came flying out, this was a much bigger one, was estimated at approx 9 -10 kilos.

On day 2 & 3 we fished at Forbes Sagar, first cast of a spinner into the fast flow was hit by a Mahseer but was taken well which followed by strikes on the 2nd & 3rd casts as well – 6lb fish landed on 3rd cast.

Summary of Catches:

Day 1: 1 small Murral and 2.5 kg Rohu at Cottage Lake.

Day 2: 3 Mahseer at Forbes Sagar, biggest was 6 ½ lbs, 2 Murral – 1kg and 3kg. Lots of bites using Ragi at the point where the Canal enters Forbes.

Day 3: 16 Mahseer at Forbes – biggest was around 5lbs, rest averaged around 1-2 lbs.

The rest of the pics are on Henry's camera.

Cheers,
Alexis

Well done Alexis!
Good news of the mahseer growing.
Hope the barbless hooks weren't the cause of loosing the Rohu that were hooked.
Regards
Owen

I have been using size 8 hooks, they work perfectly. Don't use smaller hooks than that, they are likely to pullout from thr rohu. As you have seen, the bigger ones are pretty good fighters with small mouths and soft mouth tissue. Carp hooks work best.

Owen

Agree with OMO, size 8's are the best for rohus...

BTW Alexis, was the 2.5kg rohu released back ?

As the saying goes"you can catch a big fish with a small hook but you can not catch a small fish with a big hook"!!
Cheers,

Thanks for teh snaps Alexis,
Good for Henry after the awful start he had here...we did give him soem local brew called 'kala teeter' Haryana's prime beer! nothing we could give the fish to get 'em to bite!
Dis he use the hair rig and inline feeder and the top water baits he had brought along?
I spoke to him last when he was in blr airport, enroute Goa.he was very happy about the wasi session and the fact that he was going trolling with Freddie etc.
Best
Axx
