We went back to the house on the river for a few days during Ramadan and Eid.

The Monsoon was a bit erratic which was a good thing, allowing us windows of nice sunshine and the river to clear a bit . Also when the river ran high we hit the road looking for water sheds of flooded paddy fields and canals which provided great murrel action.

Back in the UAE now and waiting for the weather to ease a bit to take the boat out.

Congrats on good catching. Is it a Storm frog? For how many murral bites does the frog last?

Thanks guys.

Michealaga :- The frogs are similar to the storm but smaller. They last for a few murrels even if they get puntured you can squeeze the water out after ewvery other cast.

Chris :- These are like 1/4 oz we also use the bigger ones.

Scott:- That Mulley went for a frog :-)

Wonderful Kerala background pictures and fantastic fishing experience. Congratulations to all of you.

The best part I feel that you guys switch your target species time to time based on environmental conditions. Wish you all the best for your after monsoon session and will wait for some wonderful stuff.

One question – How do you figure out where to cast your lure for a Murrel/ Mulley ? – I mean do they give any indication while feeding? Do they feed during any particular time?

Thanks,
Sandip

Sandip,

Thanks. Well, the Mulley was a bycatch while casting rubber frogs for Murrel in heavly weeded water . Casting a spoon ,an ideal lure for mulley, would have been virtually impossible in such terrain.

Judging weather a particular area holds target species is purely from talking to locals, also studying the terrain looking for signs of feeding activity and sheer speculation based on experience. We also look for prey items like frogs, minnows etc to mach and select the lures we use.

It also pays to study target species behavior . Which would mean field trips without taking your tackle and just sitting on the banks and observing.

Jeen
