I believe for every angler staying away from fishing for long is not possible. Made time today evening and managed to hook a few MJs.

are you just floating the bait down or adding weight..
is your bait whole or pieces of fish..
its nice that your using bait the catches will be more.. lure fishing will produce less results .. but is more fun..

all the best.

I use different methods at different time and place.
I left it free flowing since it was half moon the tides were not strong it settles down by itself slowly.
During bigger moons i use a weight.
Also to mention i was fishing in a creek.

I was using whole 6 inch mullet.

Regards
Ralph

Those are some nice looking MJs there.

If you want to catch live Mullets, you can use a 6/0 weighted treble hook and snag them.

Congrats man for your awesome catches...The idea of using mullet is very creative...I really appreciate your concept of using live mullet as a bait for barra - I think it would be very productive if Barra's are near by...

Keep experimenting....

All the best for your future hookups with Lure...

Thanks,
Sandip

Good catch Ralph.
If it is a creek and if there are no debris at the base, try using some rubber shads for MJs they are productive. If possible get those glowing ones.

Live baiting is always productive if the predators are around.

All the best.

good fish ralf .since the creek is shallow you may use top water for barra .
since top water lures attract fish mainy due to distubances in surface which sends vibrations in water which are detected by the lateral line .
you can use a fish trap for catching small bait fish

Hey Maruthu,
Glad u liked the MJs.
One question. I have read in on of ur post that wen u were targeting GTs, u wud cast the lure on the strike zone and then start Retrieve wen the GTs are chasing the bait fish. Ok. Would this technique be used for Barras as well? Do Barrs Chase their Bait like GTs Or do they wait and fire wen they are in the Strike zone?
I use to snag needle fish wen they are in numbers. I find snaging Mullets little hard.

Sandip Ghosh Thank you

Hey Santosh,
I was kind of on duty  but fishing, really cant keep myself not fishing for long.

Thank you Braganza

Hey Raj,
I usually fish where there are rocky bottoms. the current location also was rocky. The MJs were feeding near the surface could see the swell in the water and the red flash. Wat lures would work at that time?

Would like to share one incident which happened som two years back.
It was September and was a nice day no sun no rain.
Was fishing at my usual spot with my frend who wud accompany me for fishing. We both choose our own spots and started fishing. I was a few meters away from my frend.
Using Prawns as bait i was enjoying the day with lots of Breams coming in.
My day was really good I would cast and remove a lady fish. again i would cast i would remove a rock cod. I had a variety of fishes include croakers, bream, Mjs Rock cod, lady fish and a few more whos name i dont know.
My Frend on the other end had just hooked one Croaker. and was completly frustrated he left his spot and cam next to me. This time his mind was totally *u*kd. He removed another line from my bag used a bigger hook and used a prawn. I asked him " why r u using a prawn in such a big hook" as the hook was bigger than the prawn. He replied "phir kya karo?" I had caught som Croakers, told him to cut it and use a bigger portion. I was not expecting a big fish in that place so i rather didnt care much about wat he was doing. by then my frend Rigged up his second line a threw it far enough. Having two lines in one hand he was uncomfortable so he thought of leaving the big baited line on the side. I told him to use som small stone or wood to keep the line straight not giving much slack, so he used a wooden log big enough kept som extra line loose and 40lbs mono on a woodenwinder was kept inside a hole in an old rusted cabin, fitted in straightwards and then turned flat in such a way that it wud get locked inside and not com out.

My frend sitting next to me also started removing a few croakers. Its was nearly an hour that we didnt check the other line. By then another frend cam to join us he was surprised to see our catch and were chatting for a while and All of a sudden we hear a BANG. i saw the wooden log flying and off went my wooden winder also. I was quick to to cast another line to get the winder back, but by then the line had nothing. removed the line to see no hook. We had som mixed expressions at that time. And not wasting time i rigged up another hook and casted at the same spot. This time it didnt take long for the strike to com i could see the line taking off I didnt have any kind of gloves or anything and picked the line in my bare hands. Man it really burns. I couldnt hold the. line It would just go fast too fast. I left the line coz it had already pentrated my skin tried holding the winder and the line cam loose again.
But we didnt give up again the same Procedure quick. This time the frend who cam late wanted to try holding it. I warned him it was big and fast and not to wrap the line around his hand or anything else. Also told him to use a cloth to hold the line. He did wat i said but for som reason he didnt keep the line on the cloth, it was on his bare hands. Again no much of waiting the line took off fast and fast just in a few seconds my frend left the line as it had penetrated much deeper in his skin and the line went loose. My frends finger was bleeding by then.

Dont know wat it was but we always remember that day.
No wonder why many saltwater angler are very cautious. From that day onwards i never underestimated any spots which was connected to saltwater by any way [smilie=hellyeah.gif]

(I didnt use a leadwire nor a heavy mono sorry about any spelling errors also sorry for making it long)

Thank you Durvesh. Which surface lures u Suggest?

Thank you Mario. Will remove better pic Specially for u next time for sure

Thank you Apoo

Congrats Ralph for nice MJs. Thanks very much indeed for sharing your very interesting experience on strikes at cut fish bet on a big hook. The fish could be anything from Barra to a Grouper (Hikru / Gobra) or a big Tamboshi!

From your very well described report, I gather that you were using handlines. You would have certainly landed those big fishes, had you used a Fishing Rod and a Reel.

Did you catch the recent MJs too on handline? and may I ask in which creek you were fishing?

Regards,

Arun

Thanx Arun. The exp i narrated was about two years back.

Hey Mr. Sayed Thank you very much.
Yes there are plenty more fatties to be removed but I want to remove the Barras.
Yes Salim wud remove it for sure and give his amzing Narrations too.
But Had Salim not been there I wudnt have seen myself hooking these MJs today.

Just one observation, Wen the fishes were aggresively hunting they were quick to pick the bait, But after a while som Generator sound started which was loud and irritating. After the sound the fishes stopped picking the bait an the bites i wud get were not aggressive and no hook ups after that. :(

Thnk u Arish :)

Thats exactly what I told you some days back in my thread "lets go fishing " the sounds of our mechanized world spooks the fish , I think after hearing the blarring sound of the generator , the Mjs left the place and then your bait was at the mercy of the small bait fish who were just plucking tiny bits of your bait and that explains the absence of aggressive bites and no hook ups after the gen started
next time the generator starts just change your spot or packup & go home
