Ok all you hi-flying anglers, let me see how good your knowledge is.

What fish is this? Taken in Vengurla last month, they do take lures and get to 30lbs..

I'm not 100% sure what it is, but I'm fairly sure it is not in it's natural environment.

Its a Javelin fish . the name comes from the heavy spear like anal fin, that is capable of inflecting a severe wound on careless anglers. also known in aussie land as grunter! as it makes loud grunting noises when caught.
cheers .
peter.

Hi Freddie,

I was thinking about the same to greet you.

When you all dont post a topic or a reply the whole site seems like a educational forum. A bit of humour is necessary everywhere as like salt and sugar.

Cheers,
Apoo

Hi Gav,

You are most welcome. From yesterday night I was looking for new posts and topics. Till today there were nothing. I have never seen such a lean period like today. I thought everyone was busy with X-mas and NY.

Cheers,
Apoo.

Hi Owen,

What we can do is start a new thread as Crazy Pics. That pic was nice if Gav does not mind.

Bops, can we start a new thread like that? I am sure everyone will post their own pics like that (doesnt mean the picture should be like that only).

Cheers,
Apoo

Hey Apoo

You could start a new thread under the General Topics forum. Just make sure that the posts do not violate forum rules!

I believe that fish is a spangled perch with abit of Maori cross. They are much prettier in the salt water parrot species. Not very good eating due to the skin pigments diluting the masala! Cheers,Glenn

Very complicated Fred, especially when there are so many creatures in our seas, lakes and rivers! And to complicate matters Owen has posted this monster which I know what it is but I am not telling! I can drop a clue though and can say my son had one 4inches long in his tank in his home which he gave away because it grew to 15 inches in a few years. He fed it onlive yabbies and garden worms. No more clues fellows or I will give it away! Oh okay, one more clue won't hurt-----They are very good eating from 3 to 20 pounds after which the flesh is a bit coarse!!
Wish you all a happy and prosperous 2007!
Cheers,
Glenn

Fantastic Vedan right first time.
The angler was Stephen Sedgwich of Australia, and the fish weighed in at 90lbs.
Glenn was that a record for the river ?
Regards
Owen

Not sure if it was a record fish or registered as oneOwen. I do know chris[ actual name]caught it from a canoe and he is a member of a local club. It would be good if he joined the IA forum as I understand thru my cousin Peter who lives next door to Chris' dad that Chris expressed a lot of interest in the Masheer. So Chris if you are reading this article on the IAQUIZ please respond and give us all the guff first hand and tell us all about yourself and your fishing successes[ and losses!]. We are waiting to hear from you.
I believe the fish to be about 80 years old and was cauhgt on a lure[Spinner bait]. Again [Chris] can confirm type, size etc I understand there have been fish caught upto 180 pound plus! The river in which it was caught was a tributary of the murray Darling system which flows from the bottom of the Hume Damn in border towns Albury /Wodonga in the states of NSW and Victoria and flows thru to South Ausrralia.
Happy fishing!
Glenn
