Hey Guys,

Been back in uk a little while now..thought i would post some of our catches..My friend Sam and I were over for a couple of months at the end of 2010 and into the start of 2011.

The fishing was excellent. the lure fishing started off a little shaky thanks to the late rains but when conditions improved things got much better.

We landed many species, including Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Giant Trevally, yellowfin Trevally, Malabar rock cod, stumpnose, speckled snapper, sandsharks, stingrays, ox eyed tarpon, barracuda amongst others.

The barramundi fishing was great with the best session seeing around 20 hooked and 10 landed with another four Mangrove jacks for good measure. We must have landed around 50 barramundi from the shore and happily most were released to fight another day..

i'm writing the report at the moment on my site at if anyone wants a read,

some photos below

all the best, Scott

Some fabulous fishes Scott, well done again as usual. Looks like you fulfilled you dream of landing Barra on a fly. Congratulations for that.

I too landed some barras from the same place where you hooked the overhead wires.

The report throughout the Konkan cost shows a increase in Barra activity other wise the fishing in general is declining very fast :?:

Congratulations once again.

Ali. :D

Hi, Thanks Guys for all the comments,

Darryl, I used a nine weight rod with floating line and a blue clouser pattern to get the Barramundi. It was caught from the sand with a 30lb flouro leader. the leader strength could be reduced significantly if you like: we just used what we had. I'm a complete amateur at fly fishing and am learning fast. It was great to get such a fabulous fish so early on in my career! :D

Ali, the fishing was great! It's very hard to say whether fish stocks are dropping rapidly. Sure like anywhere in the world as population increases, pressure on the environment will also increase.

Also there are cycles that will determine whether it is a good or bad year for fishing. It depends alot on the prevailing water currents as well as other factors. I remember a few years ago when the guys were struggling to catch sardines and mackeral on the west coast. Not so this year..there are heaps about.

In my opinion there are still heaps of fish to catch if you can locate them and employ the right angling technique..maybe you are seeing localised population drops where commercial fishing activity is a higher than in other areas..

All the best, Scott

Read your blog! nice report! I like the part where the tailor fried you! The mahseers are real big and awesome! The temple is an awesome place its a shame havent been there considering was born n raised in blore a few kms away from chikmanglur. The one thing that makes me really divulge into cultural differences of the east and the west is something called exposure.... I have not come across any such report about people or friends from India who have everything close by and can bike it down! Its really the exposure given to people, unfortunately for me the father and son fishing together experience is a part of culture in the west and my dad being a merchant navy officer didn't really take to the sport as much. However this is not about me. Its about angling roughing things out to achieve your dream fishes and destinations! most people here refuse to camp! Its really strange! If we guys wanted and had the guts to do what you guys have we could be doing a lot more, but still we dont get such reports from our folk, most of the reports we get are food eating and making! I respect and salute you worldbiker! you and your mates are inspiration to many people! I hope after reading this post people do plan 3-4 boys trips on bikes and tents and food and really live it up to making a few difficult situations which might seem impossible at first a reality!

You guys deserve a pat on your backs and as said in hindi!

SHABAASH!

P:S: Was a wonderful read!

A small question! the 18th pic in your post! what fish is it?

Regards,
