Hi,
Could anyone identify this colourful fish.
This was a freak by catch on Mepps size 7 during a murrel hunt near cochin.

Checked out the Pristolepis marginata the Indian Leaf Fish as per Vyastk's post, looks very much like it. But this one is stunning.

Good one Sharat! How much did it weigh? How did it taste like? The tree climbing perches are considered to be a delicacy in Bengal.
Size 7 spinner? Looks like you are looking gor a 12 kg murrel after your 6 kg catch
Best luck. Tight lines!!

Hi all,

Unable to figure out what it is...
But to us it looks like a common Tilapia in a colorful camouflage(Dr. correct me if wrong).
Shilu bhai this would have been 300 gms max and i did not taste it from the pot, was given away.
But sure would have not have tasted great as the crab we caught from the cherai resort last.

Cheers
Sarath

The crab was big and yummy, Sharat. Why don't you post the pics? Does Chavie have them?
But the Koi- Climbing perch -as it is called in Bangla, is a super fish to eat. Rajat da will vouch for this. The fish is so good that most of the population has been wiped out from Bengal.

I remember one of our IA members commenting that the climbing perch population in Kerala is rising. The one you caught might be one of them. I donot think it is a camouflaged Talapia.

Chavie, you were......I tried to wake you up but no luck.
I ended up eating all the crab as Sharat is allergic to crab meat.
Filled me up.
