Hi Guys,

Went to Galibore with Saravanan and Cochin angler friends Sharat and Dr Viincent, last weekend.
Good two days of fishing it was!!
The other three were there for the first time and found it a complete cultural shift from their Lure/spoon/spinner fishing they usually do.

Though all of us caught a few good ones, Saravanan bagged the "BIG" one. 40 lbs, at the midnight hour. Beautiful specimen.

Sharat with his first Mahseer. Was Delighted :D

Sharat had fun handlining. This pink carp gave him a good fight on the handline  .

The BIG event of the trip. Sara lands a big one, 40 lbs.

Sharat got a decent one on chilwa. The fish took it as soon as he cast it. Like a lure he is used to

Image

Dr Vincent got this late in the evening, The Mahseer played with the chilwa for about 10 mins before taking it. Doc was pleased as a punch.

Sara clutching on to his prize catch. Good one for a first timer

I caught a couple of 12 pounders. Will be back here in March.

Congrats guys...gr8 pics.

Referring to one of the topics earlier...is the ban on fishing in cauvery there or not? I remember there was a huge discussion about it. Maybe you fished at some other point...

Thanks very much, All you guys.

The dream is to hook and land a 100 lb. Realistically, half the size will be great. The big ones are there and were biting the time we were there. 2 nos 70 lbs, 1 no 60 lb, 2 nos 50 lbs and a few 40's and 30's were caught by others, the time we were there. The biggest one was a 74 and the guy had to chase it 400 mts in the coracle before landing it.

I hope get lucky on my March trip, Or else the next trip.......

Ravi - Chavie is yet to come down from his cloud nine.

MM- You can still fish Doddamakali and the north banks of Galibore. Thank the Angling God. Only the reserve forest side fishing is banned.

Thanks Shilu for posting.
It was indeed a wonderful trip, the best is ive lost count of the small masheers landed on the hand line and on the soft ragi...... very much in contrast to baiting/luring MJS in the estuary, You get a strike or land one you r lucky.
It was a lot of learning and would look at next time to land the biggee...

Cheers
Sarath

Sharat, thank you and Dr. Vincy for taking precious time off from your family and busy professional schedules and making it for the trip. Was a pleasure fishing with you guys.
Looking forward to our next trip. Will it be for trout, Murrels or MJs? Galibore is calling too in March. Enough time to butter up your better halves and slip away  !!!

Thanks Ali Bhai. Even a 50 lber will be fine with your blessings!! :D

Tight lines.

The fish referred to as Pink Carp is the extremely rare and elusive Hypselobarbus micropogon. Way to go guys.

Thanks for the info Channabarca. This is a very beautiful fish. I had caught a similar specimen about 4kgs last year on a handline at the same place.
I lost one big one about 6kgs this season in Doddamakali. This was a fantastic looking specimen- pure Golden Pink. The line got cut after I had hauled it to my feet!

The one caught last year!

Image

This fish is a bottom feeder- Thick rubbery lips hanging down!

Alberto, I remember you well! You had given your chilva net to the Gilli and also a fat tip. You were pretty pissed off with the last camp manager who mucked up your tackle.
Terrific fishing you had, so many big fish. Congrats. Madha(Mado to you!) is one of the best Gilli's out there. He was telling me about your super catches!
When are you there next?
Would love to meet you! :D
Tight lines!
