Was in kerala for a couple of days. The river periyar was quite swollen and running brown. Tried some bait fishing and lures without result. Enjoyed the rain on the river though!
The boys wanted to try the upper reaches and caught a few fish. I had two hook ups. Lost one when the fish crushed the hook and another to a snag.
Saw a few nice spots with potential ,Worth a trip after the rains.

Great location and good fishes. The blue tinge on the tale in first picture is really beautiful.

Congratulation to your boys.

Regards,

Ali.

Yes, the blue and a hint of yellow on the tail fin of the first Mahseer is really eye catching!

Is the "Periyar River Lodge" next to Thattekad Bird Sanctuary in the same area where your boys fished?

Bobby, Thats a spinner ( inline). Angling 4 fun, Its a very dififcult question to answe,r not because its a secret location. Over the years we just go up the rivers in this case the chalakudy river, and ask the locals wether there has been any dynamiting that day or the previous day. WE start quite early on this quest and starting at 6 am by 8 or 9 am youll probably find one spot that has not been bombed in the last 48 hours .
THe stretch is from Vettila Para to Peringal kutthu. And Yes! dont blame me if the forest guys catch you with a masheer . Its jail and big trouble. Catch the fish take a snap and release fast. Keep a very low profile.

Jeeni

Cheers Jeen
