Hi Christopher Rodrick,
The place is upper bhavani (lakkadi). This is an restricted area. Have to pull strings to get there.

Hi Clive,
The trouts were in the month of Feb10, and Bhavani sagar in May10 and the rest in june10.

Cheers
Sarath

Nice little rainbows. Do they grow big in the Nilgiris?
Are the murrels and the trout living in the same lake? If so thats fascinating because up here areas suitable for murrel are at least 200 miles away from trout waters.

Hi Ali,

The Trout at Nilgiris do not grow too big. Some sort of genetic inhibition I presume. As much as I know the biggest catch was about 2.5 lb.

Murrel and trout do not exist in the same waters. Murrel needs warmer waters and the trouts - cooolder waters.

Ravi

Hi Ali,
Only the trouts were at Nilgiris....
Rest of the catches were in the plains Bhavani Sagar Dam at tamilnadu & river periyar at cochin kerala.

The common Silver (Carnatic) Carp readily takes the spinners

Mobeen Sahib, sadly the Carnatic Carp is not found in our neck of the woods.

The pic of carnatic carp is much similar to a fish available in Rawal lake islamabad, people call it "Paharen". it hardly goes to 10 inches or 1/2kg in size

The Carnatic Carp can grow quite big though. I remember reading about it in the "Mighty Mahseer" and he mentions catching some above ten pounds.
