Hi Bobby,
the line with was 50lbs spider with a 100lbs mono leader .. caught the fish on live bait. would have lost the fish if the local trawler was not there to help me land the fish. ..
That moster is back out there swimming away,... I did release him after the photograph.
chers
Dean

Awesome fish Dean.

Good to hear that the tough guy was released to fight another day :-). Was it Surf Caught or Boat Caught? And by the way what live bait were you using?

Thanks,
LF

Owen Bosen,

I was asking about the grouper in the first post by Dean. It looks like surf, but as it is dark I am not very sure. It is told that it was caught on a live bait, but just curious to know if it was a shrimp or a mullet or anything else.

Thanks,
LF

Hi guys,
Here are some pics from fishing in and around Goa, the extreme north and south of Goa still offer some good fishing. The Barracuda were caught while trawling. There were quite entertaining and often jump right out of the water, and once cut a mono line in the process.

The Finger Mark was caught while fishing of the rocks close to karanataka border - it put on quite a fight, the place was full of action – groupers, jacks, barracudas, snappers etc. lost a few even thou I was using a braided fire line 90 lbs test leader and back with 38lbs Shimino Braid (super line, very powerfull). There are a lot more snaps will post them soon.
cheers
Dean

Hooking up with a fish from the shore is always tougher and exceedingly rewarding. For those of u visiting Goa this season and dont want to go far, there is a beach after Donapula pass Bambolim resort, here the fishing is great, we had taken many snappers from the rocks there, here a big one that took a bit of technique to land with a 14lbs fireline, it nearly got away,
Image

The barramundi and ravas fishing is good here in Nov dec as the spot is on the mouth of the river Zuari.
Now if u are further down south towards kawar, there some amazing fishing to be had, thou one has to trek a bit, pass the last beach of Goa and just before u enter Kawar there are huge rocks, here the waters very deep and the barracudas come in close, be careful of huge groupers which are impossible to land on light gear. We caught 5 cudas on one morning session, and The next day i did this big fellow on a green firetiger, he ran quite a bit, did a huge jump close to shore, but we manage to land him without incident. On 2 strikes the big cudas jumped up really high cutting my buddies mono line. Did a few GT there too.
Image
just for the record, the cudas just love the green firetigers
cheers
Dean

Hi Dean, fishing spots are welcome. Please keep in mind, advertising fishing guides is against the forum rules.

Hey Dean,

nice pics and beautiful fish glad you released the grouper. Well just counting the days when i'm gonna be down. Then u gotta take me to all these places. Went out trolling offshore in dubai but was very disappointed just a few barracudas and 1 kingfish plus alot of queens and snapper but they were quite small. With all the jazz construction going around in DXB its surprising we even still catch fish.

Will see u for XMAS cheers and tight lines.

Cornel

Hi Kulsdood
most of them in on spinning of the rocks and estuaries (as you can see the spinning rod in the pic) and a few while trawling. I prefer spinning .. its hard work and one to one action with fish
cheers
Dean

My Brother was down with his wife in Goa last week, he took a couple of rods with them they landed a few GT's. I am waiting for the pictures, apparently they also caught some fish in Bandra (Bombay) the week before.

Normally fishing in Bombay slows down in November/December only a few Barras and Rock Cods around, I noticed that the MJ's tend to move down south where the fishing for them and GT's are fansastic in these months.
