After my last trip to Konkan 2 weeks back I was itching to go back for the beautiful snappers and for the Big GT's, the wind had really picked up so could not head out to sea for the first day so landed up fishing in the river catching Barracuda's, snappers, groupers and small Trevally, did not bother clicking picture's of all the fishes most of them were instantly de-hooked and sent back my mind was still on the GT's, so in spite of the wind and my sea sickness problem, we decided to brave it and head out in the morning to the reef as soon as we came out to open sea the swell was worth surfing not fishing, but we still head out to the reef, out there because of the rocks the swell was even worse I had already puked once but went ahead and started to cast while balancing on the rocking boat I got hit by a big Black Trevally but it did not get hooked, then time to puke a second time had some water and head out to another reef, here on my second cast the water burst as if some one had just thrown in a bomb and my reel was screaming for the next few minutes fought him for a long time don't know how much time but it was long, after I got him out of the reef, he was just standing still and did not budge no matter how much I pumped the rod just my line would go out every time i pumped and I had no intention of jamming the drag to be on the safe side, after a few more runs and getting him close to the boat he head straight under and down the boat making my rod look like a perfect "U", I thought my rod was going to snap in Half then kept on pumping till I could finally see my leader and when the fish finally came up I just could not believe the size, finally I had caught my dream GT it weighed around 22kgs, wanted to fish more but the rocking boat made things more worse and I puked more 3 times and was fully dehydrated had to head back, but I will be back again to Konkan for more Bigger GT's.
I have to beat my own record of 22kgs...

Some of the fish I caught.

You lucky fellow. That was suppose to hit my popper. Dosent matter. I will try for another one. Superb GT caught. That place holds some giant ghoda konkars. They have screwed my back thrice. But I will not give up. Planning my trip now. Congrats for the GT caught and happy fishing.

Hay Dilip,

Congratulations once again on landing this beauty of fish. I know how the big waves can turn your stomach up side down but as the saying goes big the swell, bigger the fish, it is always rewarding to brave the odds. The place you were fishing has lot of potential and hooking a big one is not a difficult job but the fighting and landing them is really very difficult. Mine one cut me in three seconds.

Keep it up and best of luck for future fishing.. :P

Regards,

Ali.

Yucks !!! You are ******* disgusting Sayed :) You can go to that extent just to get a GT??? Instead try a GT Poping ROD with a good line and a Halco ROSTER Popper :)

all I did is suggest you a way  take it or leave it
by the way keep your GT poping rod on your lap and listen carefully I don't need no mumbo jumbo tackle to catch big fish, if you go and have a look around you'll see that all the fancy tackles in the market have managed to hook more fools than fish. I have caught many 10+ kg barras and 4 to 6 kg roosters,3+kg MJ's that too on handlines and the elusive Rawas{threadfin} on a fourteen feet good old bamboo pole with which we catch mullets very often.
believe it or not :!:
if not ! [smilie=smack.gif] then your classes will commence in december when you land here

All right mate.

I wont argue with you cause I can't ask you to show me that 14 feet bamboo :)

For that matter even I have used bamboo rods, the difference is that you don't regret when it breaks and more over you urself can decide what lb test and casting weight you need on your bamboo rod.

By the way how many guides did have on that 14 feet bamboo rod [smilie=chongin.gif]

Just kidding mate. Insha allah we will meet in December

Dilip, Excellent catches. Landing a GT is really challenging. Keep it up.

I wish you break your record in every trip.

Is the place located between Alibaud and Murud? I was fishing near revdanda. This place resembles to the same.

Keep fishing and keep posting dear.

Hi Dilip, Awesome GT there. Nice to see some big fish being landed in the mainland. Any chance of popper fishing for them? Have you guys popper fished or do you troll? A fish like that on popper will put up quite a scrap.

Hey Thanks, that fish was caught on popping only, out here we troll a lot but for GT or small Trevally its popping only,

Congratulations on the superb catch!!!

A note of inspiration (with a little bit of perspiration) to Delhi Guys, eat Chinese's/Gol Gappa on the roadside here to quickly get a "Delhi Belly" and fly down to Konkan......... get a GT.

Congratulations Dilip for your Great catch! I wonder how you could fight him in spite of your Sea Sickness. Really a Good Show of strength in spite of Pukes.

Thanks for sharing your pics.

Best Wishes for breaking your own PB record of 22 kg.

Tight Lines,

Arun

Thank you Samsondhi and Mohile Sir, even though I was Sea Sick I could still fight the fish because after the fish hits, you forget everything in and around you, even sea sickness does not bother you,

Hi Dilip,

I have yet to experience this! So next time I go on a Boat, I will not give up casting even if I Puke and imagine that fish is after my Lure. And Hope my imagination comes True! Thanks for your First Hand Information.

Hi Dilip, Do you have a lot of GT that come up for poppers? We catch a lot of GT on stick baits as well. Recently caught one that went close to 30+ kilos. It's interesting to see GT being caught in the mainland.

Mighty Marlin.

Hi,
well the big and small Trevally out here are the same as their brothers and sisters down south, they hit poppers, stick baits and also crank baits, in fact the first ever trevally I caught when I started lure fishing was got on a crystal minnow, a few months back my friends were trolling off the konkan coast for marlin, they had let out big Trolling skirts they did not get any marlin but hooked up two huge trevally's instead, that's when I learnt that these bruisers hit big trolling skirts also,

regards
