Hi Guys,

Went to Galibore for a 3 day fishing trip. Missed my first big one. Less said the better.
Caught about 20 fish in the 4lbs-14lbs range with soft ragi directly on the hook and one 25 lbs one on a hard ragi hairball rig.

First 3 sessions were fruitless on a hairball rig- nary a bite. For 4th session tried out ragi on hook and caught this small beauty at about 6.30 am. Must be about 12 lbs.
Will be buying weighing scale soon.
Gilli Madhavan with the fish.

View of the river. Water was slightly greenish.

One more small beauty.

The fish were biting like crazy. Many small ones and a slightly bigger one next.

I got sick of pulling in the 10 pounders and shifted base to the camp pool. At about 1.00 pm there was a strike and the big one took the bait and ran.
The next 30 mins were a complete mess up resulting in a lost fish.
Sat thru the evening feeling sick and finally got this 25 lbs one. Some consolation.

Beautiful sunrise. Saw a huge Mahseer coasting by. Shoals of carp gave a good aquatic gymnastics show.

Later, cast in the croc pool. No bites. Cast a hand line and caught this beautiful carp.

A goodbye fish, again on the handline.

I was very happy to see that the Jungle lodges people were doing a great conservation job. The river is full of fish. Can't wait to go back again.

Regards.

Nice fish and a great trip I am sure.

The big one always gets away. And that's what keeps us going back.

Thanks so much- Viper, Sanjay, Vijay.
Aircut- I am no expert in lure fishing. I have bought a few lures and spoons(Halco, Yo-Zuri) recently, that too for some shore fishing.
From what I have read- Mahseer can be caught on spoons and lures. These are typically used in rapids and not the pools. Rapala Rap Shad is one popular lure. Typically in the Cauvery, the "wise ones" suggest Chilwa(live bait) for the rapids and Ragi for the pools.
Lure fishing is more popularly used for the Himalayan mahseer. In fact fly fishing- mainly used for Trout is getting very popular for catching the Himalayan mahseer.
Regards.
