Fished the Last full moon with the 5mtr tide for the Mumbai Barra's, got several hits and lost a big one was pretty dissapointed, this New moon I was back got permission for only a short time to the colaba Naval dock, fished for an hour with poppers got many hits as usual but the first one I hooked was a small barra about 4-5 kgs de-hooked him in the water only and let him go, the second one was 8 kgs gave me a decent fight, took a photo and let him go also, below are few of the pics.

The First 4-5 kg Barra.

Thanks Sanjay, Keyur and Santosh.

Well Keyur as for the fish living another day, I always leave 100% of my catch unless a friend wants it I keep it for him, but the Barra's in South Mumbai are best released as they are loaded with mercury, the waters are very polluted.

Thanks Ali, but the situation on the Mumbai shores is the same nothing has improved, the only reason I get these barra's because i fish them from the naval docks which is a protected place, commercial fisherman are not allowed to come and put their nets anywhere in the area that's the only reason why there are fishes here through out the year.

I am a new Angler as for as Mumbai goes but since last five year I have seen a marked improvement of fish activities on Mumbai Shore... Specially Barras and Ravas.

Regards,

Ali.

Impresive.
I've seen the water at Colaba and wouldn't have believed that there were such fish present.
It's all the more impressive as despite several attempts, I've yet to get a hit from a barra on a popper.
Have you tried a 4" rubber shad there ?

:D I know ur pulling my leg on this one, Alibhai.

@ Ken I have not tried shads at this location, we get permission to fish only at nights and we have had the best results only with poppers of any color, the barras are bursting the water everywhere chasing mullets, some times plugs do fine but nothing beats the popper here, I caught this fish with a Rapala-skitter pop.

Hello Dilip,

Thanks for sharing your pics and congrats for your nice catch.

I agree that Mumbai waters are polluted but I have my reservations regarding Mercury pollution. because if I am not mistaken, so far there were no cases of 'MINAMATA' cases within Mumbai population. Unless the 'MINAMATA ' decease is known by some other name in India.

Best Regards,

Arun

Thanks Bobby, the dockyard is delivering every second day, only problem is getting permission to get in, due to all the security we get a chance only once a blue moon.
