Hi Guys,
It's that time of year when we're waiting for the Mahseer season in the south to start. Atleast some of us will head to the river the first chance we get and I'm hoping to be one of the first to lead the charge.

I remember my last trip to Haira which was in Jan. Went off really well with a lot of fish considering the fact we were there only for 2 days.

This fish was caught on ragi, baitrunner fishing, late evening. The colouring of this fish was beautiful greenish/gold with orange fins. It was a really nice specimen and did give me a good fight but never really had me in a panic during the fight.

Regards,
Mighty Marlin.

Hi almighty masheer,

Thats a very nice fish. I really envy you guys in banglore. You guys seem to have all the fun. By the way i wanted to ask a few qustions. how many days in a year do you fish for mahseer?where do you get the licence from?do you have to be a wasi member? How much would a trip cost you? a few sites i saw gave me a cost of a 1000 bucks a day for fishing only. Do you camp at the site? how many anglers are there with you? what is ragi?? does this bait work for rohu? It seems you have been to the andamans, tell us something about your trip. Hope to hear from you soon.

regards,
aamir.

To some extent, yes - couldn't afford the house rents on my salary. Never did like Bombay either. Not that Bangalore is any better now.

I was doing a project in Baroda when SWMBO called me and asked if she should take a vacancy her office had in B'lore. The rest as they say is history.

Mind you, my main interest was elsewhere and I only started fishing a little over a year ago.

Why don't you drop by now and then? Fly in Friday night, fly out late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Once a year you could even do a week or ten day trip for Mahseer.

There's always a couple of beds going spare at Chez Bana, so don't worry on that account.

Rustam

Hi Fred,
They truly are magnificient fish and I'm privileged to be able to go out and CnR a couple of them every season.
Like you rightly said the Barramundi is another beauty.
Respect to these great fish!

Around 50 lbs, can't remember the exact weight, we caught 3 fish in the same range on that trip, 49lbs, 52lbs and 54lbs according to our scale. Also managed my biggest mahseer on spinner on that trip. Should have the pics around so will post tomorrow or on monday.

Regards,
Mighty Marlin.

This was a silver mahseer caught the previous evening. Again a nice specimen and I was dying for a golden Mahseer at the time. Luckily my wish came true the following day.
Caught the usual style, abu 10000, baitrunner, ragi with hing and not a very long wait.

 I do Owen,
That dubious honour goes to Prathap. I'd missed that trip... have no idea why :? But anyways the story goes like this. Prathap was out with Sahadev and a couple of other guys. They had got a couple of bites that night but not converted them. It must have been quite late and Prathap had fallen asleep with his rod in hand on a camp cot, drag set at max. Next thing he remembered was a searing pain on his right ankle, as he jumped up a small folding chair lying in front of the cot cart wheeled into the river along with his rod. Then Sahadev's baitrunner took off as Prathap's rod was stuck in his line, but before Sahadev realised what had happened he struck a couple of times :-)
The next day Prathap cast out from the last rock at Haira (downstream from camp)with Sahadev's rod and the lead weight on his line snagged the line from his 'lost' rod. The guide and he went out in the coracle and pulled out his rod and reel. Now is that luck or what?

Regards,
Mighty Marlin.

Lucky it would have been had Pratap landed that fish mate!
Getting the the rod back at Hiara should not be too difficult.
A lesson to be learnt guy's.

I've been told many a time I take my Mahseer fishing too seriously and am really bad company while out.

Oh yeah all you guys, while we're out its strictly a booze less trip. Far too many things that can go wrong.

Hi Freddy,

Change in plans, I will come to Bombay on the 30th this month and start the drive down to Karwar the next day evening.

I could drop the reel off at your place on the 1st as you may be at Vijay Durg at that time.

I will leave for Singapore on Tuesday next week and will return to Hong Kong on Thursday.

Hi Freddy,

I will arrive Bombay on 30th late evening about 2000 hours.

I may say at Vile Parle for the night or come over to Bandra, next day 1st I will have to pack all my gear for the trip. Besides I have to take off line from two big game reels and respool them etc etc. So the whole day will go doing that stuff.

As soon as I am done with that we will start the drive, so meeting up may be difficult at Vijay Durg unless you stay a day longer. In any case, I suggest you dont change your plans, you PM me the details and tell me what time you intend to leave Vijay Durg? we will see if we can catch up.
Does your Mobile work up there? or do you have a land telephone line?
I will be carrying my Satellite Phone with me so I will be able to contact you at any time, but I will not leave my Sat phone on all them time.

See what we can do.

Bobster .. stop behaving like doing up the reels takes so much time .. if it does the drive to Durg takes 8 hours .. u can spool / unspool 5 times on the way ... you take toooo much time on the appetisers u miss the main course maan ... just land .. get into a vehicle the next day and drive to durg .. ave just got info that the GTs are about and so are the cobia ... so if you have to move you have to move NOW ... unlees offcourse you are into interc_----- and hence you have to respool and spool B4 you get into some fish

Hi Fred,

You cannot spool Big Game reels in a car mate 8) . Fred I dont live there so it is not like you guys who can just pick up your stuff and get going. I have to pick up all my tackle from my inlaws place get it organized etc. I am not fibbing when I say it takes at the very lease half a day. Anyway, the trip to Vijay Durg going would not be to fish just to meet you and hand over the reel.

We plan to fish Vijay Durg on the way back it will be closer to the full moon then, my mates were there a few weeks ago for 3 days, it was quite dead. A few days before that some guys caught a whole load of Spanish Mackerel.
