Hi,
It’s been some time now, myself and Sachin were considering night fishing and especially after Ramil’s success (with the BARRA) we had decided to fish late into the night at our favorite place Munambam (COCHIN).
We reached the Estuary at about 3PM yesterday.
We started casting into the estuary on to the out going tide. There were not much of activities except for a strike to my HALCO red head popper, the hooks did not set and I lost the fish.
Rohit could not hold his nerves at home, he joined us at 7PM, and we were still casting on to the estuary with the tide getting much stronger. Rohit got a strike at 8 PM and had to really fight the fish hard as it was with the strong current and the retrieve against. After 10 minutes he landed a beautiful THREAD FIN of 3 Kgs.
After few more casts we moved further up the rocks and started casting on to the sea and on the 4th cast I got this huge strike at 9.30 PM taking my 20lb braided reel up to about 50 meters and started reeling in few meters till the next run for about 15 meters and I held still reeling in and after 20 minutes the fish was visible and still fighting. By then Sachin was ready with the gaff going dangerously near the water and Rohit with the spot light. We managed to gaff and land this beauty.
It weighed an exact of 8 Kgs.
Lure was HALCO 160 DD, reel SHIMANO fx4000fb (thanks Bopanna IA), Line 20lb braid (thanks Biju, Cochin).

The picture taken with the phone camera was not clear for post, hence taken at Rohit's place.

Alibhai, Keyur

Barras are plenty in Mumbai, I fish regulary every Saturday/Sunday on the same 2-3 spots around Mumbai and they are there but the best fun is during the spring tide on the Ebb and the only lures we use are poppers they just love them, we have caught barras in Mumbai from 2kg to 30 kg you just have to know where to find them and after sunset of course. we release all our catches, the fishes stink of oil and the mercury level in the fishes around Mumbai is very high also , The picture of the barra below was of the only barra gaffed as it was for the security in charge of the area where we fished also there are picture's of some other fish caught in my backyard.

What was that fish in the 3rd pic and was it taken at my favourite spot?

Bobby

Hey Bobby,
the fish in the 3rd pic is a ribbon fish, these fishes are not from your spot they are from spots next to my house in South Mumbai, in fact this Sunday we got a 9kg grouper and a 5 kg barra let them go immediately after de-hooking them and also removing a camera and clicking pictures puts us in a tight spot in our area, in fact now days we keep our pan card and passport copies with us when we fish in high security areas as we are always pulled up imagine 2 guys with big rods, back packs and waist packs immediately arouses suspicion.
