Hi all
Finally I was able to land two large Garfish last Friday. the weather was great , sea was calm. The fish put on a decent 2~3 minute jump and splashing and darting about zig zag finally, calmly came close to shore and then one more last minute swashbuckling, with all the prehistoric tooth and then all over.
a few fellow anglers (including a street cat who i noticed came running towards the fish) all helped me to land it.
was good fun.
Looks like its the season now for Garfish. plenty of them swimming around.
Pictures including an armature drawing of the tackle used is in link shown below:

ciao all

Hi Dilip
They taste great , just fry with some garlic and pepper . or if you like make curry with coconut
both finger licking good !!!
Do Not eat the eggs if any ...not edible . rest all ok.
also don't be concerned about the bones still looking green turquoise after cooking.
it strangely does not change colour like other fish.
ciao

RIG for Garfish/Needle fish,

Try this and u will catch more of these burgers.

use a champagne cork make a hole in the stem of the cork and use a 3 inch wire tie. Hook s snap swivel in this loop. Use this setup instead of a sinker at the end. the rig should be a paternoster rig with hooks of size 10 or 12. Line or 0.4 dia should suffice. Use small pieces of shrimps as bait. When you cast make sure u twitch the live as this teases them and they grab the bait. they get hooked very quickly so you have to strike and reel else they will gulp the bait.

NOTE: the fun is in keeping the bait floating as this fish is always found on surface and move in shoals.

Cheers,

DeZZ
