Hi all,

It was a very successful trip this week for the murrel fishing at Bhavani Sagar. We had informed our Gilli’s that we were reaching there by 5.30 am from Coimbatore and we want to start the fishing early.

We have reached the dam by 6.00 am and started casting by 6.30 am. There was lot of fish feeding, but we could not catch one.

We were verymuch fedup that the water level was down, the fish were feeding , but could not catch one.

We have moved to further distance and by 8.00 am , suddenly I got a strike. It was around 2.00 kg and safely landed the fish.

After few cast, I have moved further and seen some good action. On the 3 rd cast , I got the strike and my reel started screaming . I could understood that the fish was a decent one. After few minutes hardly 2 -3 minutes , I could land it safely.

Immediately my gilli told me that there was another fish looking for its mate. On the 1 st cast itself I got the strike, but its bigger than the earlier one. Within 3 minutes I had landed the fish safely.

One thing still I can’t understand. If it was a Mahseer or a carp on the same weight I would have need min 15 minutes to land it, but for murrels , I have not seen much fight.

Actually it was a pair and weighing 5 kgs plus each.

After that I had asked my pal Murali who is almost away 500 metres and caught only one small carp .All the time his spinners struck in the rock bottom or somewhere.

I had asked him to join the fun and he started landing the fish every 5 minutes. But his were 1.5 - 2.5 kgs.

The fun is Murali and I were standing very closer and it’s a
5 metre width canal. .I had casted to my left and Murali to right . 2.5 kg one was actually caught by me and halfway it released the spinner and again went for Murali’s spinner. He landed it safely. I have missed another one also . He caught 4 murrels and 1 carp. I had caught 3 murrels.

After 9.00 there was not even a strike, and action was not much and we left the place.

The line – sufix mono used 20 lb and the spinners were mepps aglia rainbow trout size 5 used by me and size 4 by Murali.

Have a nice fishing.
