Well, it was a Saturday and a holiday. After getting up late from bed and having a heavy breakfast, I gave a call to Rajatda. I wanted to show him the new rod and reel that I got recently, with his advice. (Thanks Rajatda for the brotherly advice). Rajatda called me over to Powai at Alibhai's Machan where he was fishing. Wow, I said. I thought it was going to be a no fishing day today, but to my delight I was going to get to test my new gear at Powai. A place where I had always wanted to fish.
I reached Alibhai's machan and was happy to find Bablubhai there as well. I got positive responses on my rod and the reel and I was happy. Rajatda and Bablubhai set my rod up and I was ready for fishing. This was my first fresh water fishing experience.
Some time later Alibhai and Santosh joined in too. Wow, the gang was here. Alibhai reset my rod and said "I am going to get you to catch fish today." Several times I got bites but could not synchronize my strike with the bite. Damn, it happens so fast. I asked Alibhai if I could strike when he tells me to. Alibhai said that it would be too late by the time I react to his words and asked me to follow my instincts. The float started to rise and I struck. There........ the rod was bent and I was getting pulls and jerks. I was excited. Alibhai calmed me down and tought me to control and play with the fish. Soon the fish was exhausted and at the surface and Alibhai scooped it out of the water with a landing net. It was a Mrigal of around 1.75 kg. I can't tell for sure how long I played the fish.............. time just flew by (to my estimate it was 2 mins). The fish was released as Alibhai said that I should release my first fish. The fish swam off happily leaving a big smile on my face. Although I did take home a fish. The one caught by Santosh, an equal size Mrigal.
I know it is not as great an achievement but it was a day I enjoyed very much and was truely my luck day.
