To a novice angler like me ... trips like those make my tongue hang out !!! Pity i have never been able to visit Pakistan, hope to visit the your beautiful country sometime soon in the future. And if i do... i will definitely be getting in touch with you Advocate Sahab !!! Primarily for the fishing of course, but also because i think it is people like you who see the larger picture of humanity and can bring about the required changes in the mind sets of people, on both sides of the border.

Here's the menu - Pabda with Mustard, Baapa iilish, Kasso mangsho, fish head in cabbage, ruhi kaalia, maach bhaaja, a little rice.

Then for the main course - Roast pork, patatoes, chicken curry, Mutton fry and a little bread.

Dessert - you chose!

Dear IA friends,

Thought I would pull a leaf from my old angling days around Delhi. The Jhelum catches are very similar to the sport that was available at the Hindon River/ Canal in the period 1965 to 1982, when I was first in Delhi.
We caught all the carp species , Rohu, Mirgal(also called Narayan locally), Calabans, and ofcourse the Catla. All were caught on a red slim very active earth worm, or a marsh worm called Pinchaura. The Pinchaura looked a lot like the Blood worm use in Bandra for mullet and were the better bait.

The Shikari ground baited the spot, which invairably was 30 to 40 yds out in the slow flowing river, for a couple of days before we fished. They would swim out to the spot and clear the river bed of weed and other snags before ground baiting.

The terminal tackle we used was a spindle shaped lead weight with a hole through which the line could slip. Two hooks were tied at the end and baited with the worms, two or three at a time. The Lead weight was covered with ground bait of a higher concentration, with out any clay in it.This lump of ground bait could slip to within 4 to 5 inches of the hooks. This was cast out to the ground baited spot and the rods put on a rest.
Best fishing time was late evenings till about 9.00pm and then again from 4.00am till 8.00 am. The season was at its best from September through to early December. Three or four rods were put out per ground baited spot. Hindon produced large fish, the biggest Catla I saw being taken by a local shikari was well over 70 lbs. Rohu were common in the 15 to 20lb class.

Delhi anglers what is the latest out there ?
Has any one seen a Silund being caught recently?

Hindon - R.I.P.

Silund - only a few left in the Ganga above Aligarh. I was lucky to catch a small 5lbs one five years ago. The same day a friend got broken off by a monster of about 25lbs right at the bank.
