Great Appoo,
Breathtaking spot, least to say  . Looks like it was a gala party of angling you guys were having 8) . Great fun. Right. The confluence in 11th snap looks like a very promising spot.

Thanks for sharing such great snaps.

Regards,

Ali..

Hi Aaron,

Does the pic tell you anything about the sorry state of that mighty golden? The only problem in the teesta is that people take home their catch. One day, we will not get anything.

I stayed in that building only. 1st night we booked a room sans beds and chairs. Luckily we were carrying tents, ground sheets and those stuffs. Next day we pitched our tents in the lawn of that hotel and the rest of the days we pitched it near the river.

wonderful location and the flowing rapids as well. i also love to fish in the rapids. normally i fish with spoons. just make the spoon spin down alongwith the rapids and then u can surely expect a mighty strike of my beloved mahseer. anyway congrats for the fish as well as the location. great fishing.
cheers,
spoonangler.

I didnt catch the fish. Tho one who got the fish is from Kalingpong. He is a MLA's brother. His name is Faudeng Lepcha. People were telling us that big ones were caught and taken home.

Hi All

Yes the person holding the Golden is Faudeng Lepcha brother of Gaulan Lepcha (MLA) and a first cousin of mine.

After I saw the photo i called Gaulan and he said it was a 17 kg catch, sad to say catch & release is an unknown code in the Teesta.

The Teesta is no longer the river it once was, I went over night bait fishing in late september 2007 and the total catch was one freshwater eel,5 katla in the 400 - 800 gms. range. The bait was frogs, worms and cheese(amul cubes) and oranges.

The (local name) aasala a smooth skin species once common has disappeared, the two species of catfish Kaaray and Khorok are not be seen anymore.

In sept. 2004 I saw a 25 Kg female golden being taken, it had eggs....a real loss. The spot where it was taken is the site of a huge Hyro dam now, wonder what will happen to the Teesta.

Regards

David
