Unfortunately it looks like a mahseer !
The sol in your waters are much lighter in colour than the ones we have in south india. It even has some pink in it. I would not be surprised if it were a different type of Sol.

Pity the picture is taken from a distance. The pattern on the body would detirmine the species. My eyesight is pretty buggered anyway.

Look at the difference of styles in fishing for sowl/murrel between our countries. Here we use spinners only of #3 or 4 size., though we may catch less we do not use bait.

Michaelaga,

Snake heads in Pakistan are caught on spinners as well. Though the ocassional snake head on worms is also not rare.
Actually in Pakistan the number of anglers is comparatively less and the snake head areas we have are usually not easily accessible. Therefore less number of snake heads on lures/ spinners.

Where ever one can use a spinner/ lure, sanke heads are caught in abundance. Though the most effective snake head tech in our country would be live bait. One of my friends caught a 14kg snake head from Tarbella in Oct 08.

sorry Michaelega i would not agree completely. I saw some being caught by Delhi anglers on the dead or semi live frogs and not one of them at least four all in the range of 4 to 8 Lbs and I asked them and it was also confirmed by locals that they regularly catch them on frog as bait so may be down south but not all India we also catch snakeheads on bait

Yup!

Most of the guys up north catch snakehead/murrel/sol o frogs or extremely large balls of earthworms. The first time IndianGypsy and I tried using artificials we were laughed at. Some of the very experienced anglers still do not use spinners or scum frogs. They believe that only the small fish hit these.
