Friday: Abhi calls me up “Change of plans we are going to ratnagiri since its full moon and its Barra’s season”. I say ok (as if I know). So we stoped over at Raigad district to try at a spot which was dead for last two years.

Sunday : Whole day not a single strike.

Saturday: BLAST!!!! At 11:30 AM.

Balamama fighting with a fish for 45 min alone over the rocks. Lost the fish same problem however balamama is happy since he couldn’t hold on any more.

Hey Guys,

Some nice barra there boys. Think I mentioned in an earlier post that I saw some in the market here. No idea when I'll get a chance to go after them but

Hi Guys,

Wonderful job!. Man I need to hook some of those Barras.

Mighty Marlin, do you have any fresh warter flowing into the Andaman warters ? any small river, big streams from the islands. The Barras need some brakish water in their breeding cycle . But then I also have heard of these fish on the coast of the northern emirates. I guess they must be hanging around on the Iranian coast where there are many rivers joining the sea and these strays may be wandering off and crossing the Gulf to the UAE shores which is hardly 100 miles across from the other side. The Andamans are just across the river mouths of the Ganges and The Brahmaputra and considering the volume of fresh water that must be pushing into the bay of Bengal during the Monsoon, The Barras I am sure do come over to explore your waters.

Yes my friend Santosh you are right about the place and it’s in Raigard. Yaj, for you information this was a catch in last two years in that same place because the fish are very lure shy now. I will keep it in mind next time we will try some live bait fishing however the fish that were found in the guts are very different to the ones you suggested Santosh. That explains why they were caught on a particular color. And walking over rocks to and fro for 6km is not an easy task.

Bops, Jeen, Mighty Marlin, lure_fisherman, Keyur, mayursud, thank you all for the for the words of encouragement.

walking over rocks, casting from a beach or jetty or sitting in ali's machan for a whole day to get one good bite is never easy.. ask the PHG about the summer heat Or Riaz & co about the full day fishing which sometimes produces few tilapias.. once I & Ali have walked around half of dharna dam covering 15 or 20 Km of paddy fields, ankle deep mud, moss covered rocks from morning 7 to 4 PM for just one murrel .... who says good things in life come easy .. BTW, the good things are not just the fish. :)

Correct dude. However rather than waiting, hunting for the game is a different strategy altogether (Lure-fishing is active hunting, bottom fishing is static trapping). The thrill lies in the surprize in finding what was lurking there.

My comment was based on the fact that you said the location was Ratnagiri whereas the images were labelled Harihareshwar.Freudian slip perhaps?
Yaj.

You wait and wait and wait for your buddy to give you a call and then you hunt him down and arrive to join him when least expected ... only to realize a machan can have other uses also

Waiting .... Hunting ... and ..... S U R P R I S E !!

Come for a trip with us my friend, only then will you understand the meaning of “ADVENTURE SPORT FISHING”. I bet after that either you will never leave the seclusion of Powai or you will be baptized for life. Do remember to stop smoking (cigarettes) at least for a week before the trip.

No negative vibes my friend. I am just expressing my views.

Tats..I fail to understand why you took it so personal.. maybe i guess for the following..

1st: please post pics with mention to who caught them... of course I know who (not you), many on the forum do not..

2nd: why you have to lie about the location?, say its secret.. u guys went to harihareshwar and tell ppl on the forum that u went to ratnagiri which is 200 Km further away.. why are you here..?? to post pics of fish caught by others as caught by you..??? or to get beginners to get started and share your knowledge (I m sure u don't have any)..

BTW.. so called ADVENTURE SPORT FISHING.. this weekend come with me.. I will take you to places...just me & you ..... lets see who gets baptized

As for powai, I have learned my angling from one of the finest person I have ever met.... ask any one who knows him.. I m sure he will not have a second opinion...

And, please I am not getting you wrong.. me just getting right

Well i guess no beating around the bush any more! I guess the idea of having a forum like this is for us anglers(and wannabe anglers) to have a place to network, share ideas, tips ,tricks, anecdotes and anything that can help us in the one thing that brings us together here.... angling!

We can all respect the right of a member to keep his angling location secret thats his prerogative, but to deliberately mislead other members by lying about the location is downright deceitful! A trusting ,unsuspecting member might waste a lot of time, money and *%&^#@ trying his luck at the wrong place.

Thatagata i guess its really adventurous heading for Ratnagiri and landing up at Harihareshwar without you realising it ! Or did you happen to find a... 6 mile over the rocks shortcut from Ratnagiri to Harihareshwar LOL!

Yaj.
