Hi Guys,

After we beat South Africa yesterday, took my South African Friend on a consolation trip this morning.

All fish were caught on flies & a metal jig.

Michelaga,

My friend who was fly fishing was using a 6 wt set up . The leader attached to the fly was 20lb mono. I was using a 1 oz metal jig 8 lb mono line with a 20lb bite leader. THe total fish caught were 7 queen fish averaging 10 to 12lb and one golden trevally about 6 lb.I was fishing very light just for kicks and had a few cut offs.

Hi Debb,

For the record. My friend Armand is much more of an angler than me. Coming to think of it my friends fish better than me. My kids beat me all ends up . But still life is beautiful !!

Hi Jeen,
fly fishing is my kind of fishing. Your friend used a #6. was it a floater or sinker. How deep did the takes materialise? Loved to have been there. Well done. Henry

Hi Henry,

The fly was a clouser . Fished sinking but all the takes are on the top water column within a metre depth. We were sight fishing at the bait balls rounded up by the queens, trevally and such other. THe fish were practically fighting over the flies.

Hi Jeen,

Nice fish and cool pictures.

I have heard that some of the finest surf fishing destiantions in the world for GTs and other species like kingfish are in Mozambique and in some parts of South Africa :?:

Jeen,

I would like to go there once, but can't commit at this point of time.
Most likely I might join you in March. I love so much to fish saltwater from LAND.

Are you planning to fish from surf? It is okay for me fish occasionally from a boat, on a trip solely ment to fish from surf.
From your previous post I assume you are a good surf fishermen too :D

Cheers,
Maruthu

Hi jeen

been watching you and your son's amazing adventures.Wanted some info. What size boat were you on and can one do the same stuff from a 19 foot Regal bow rider boat that i am getting soon.I have asked the manufacturers to install a fishing package though i have no idea what that entails. I have never fished in the ocean but really looking forward to doing it off the coast of Cochin. So if you dont mind, would like to pick your brains from time to time about how to go about it.

HI Phish,

My boat is a 31 footer with 2x 200 Hp Yamaha 2 stroke out board. The 31 footer can do with 2 X 115 . However since we live in this part of the world where a litre of petrol is less than 10 rupees fuel eco dosent matter much.
Your bow rider would be pretty ok with 2 x 75/ 90 for fishing from cochin if you watch the weather. Iam from cochin and am presently building a house on the periyar river banks and intent to park a boat there which I can take to the river mouth esuary area .
Do feel free to ask questions . If not me, our fellow fishos from the forum will shurely have good advice for you

Hi Phish,

Iam also married to one. Iam from Tamilnadu. I have a house in cochin . However I spend all my time in Munnar when in India . I have a farm there.
I have fished off Cochin in the early 80ts from a local fishing boat and caught kingfish , cobia and some snappers. I have done a lot of fishing in the backwaters for barramundi, snapper and Indian tarpon.

However the water quality is very poor these days and I suspect the back waters would produce more of cat fish than anything else. But with a boat you can still fish certain spots for decent game.
