Hi Henry Bhau, nice doggies!
Now you out to tell Ken and OB about lube tube, chatni etc?
Any one used Blacang? (malay fish paste, pronounced BLACHANG) This stuff stinks , very fishy and guess It leaves an olfactory trail miles wide.
I found good old bread with coconut oil and vanilla to be tops! now looking to add a bit of blacan to the boilng water used to mix Ragi.

Hi Asif,
When i started fishing the Kaveri, i met up with Suban's father (Suban is the head guide at Bush Betta). Well he asked me to bring some dried fish powder to add to the ragi instead of hing or jeera. He said it was cheaper and more effective.
Thanks for stirring up old memories.
Regards
Owen

Now-now,
I did not imagine that one tube of swallow me gifted to M’Ken (Will not call him turtle Ken as this can happen to any one of us) will stir so much of passion among our fellow anglers :!: :!: . Owen hats off to you for giving our fishing goods an entire different dimension   . Well I do not think the discussion in this thread reflects the true state of affair of anglers in India :?: . (Or does it     ).
Henry, Keyur and Jude- Don’t worry and just come to Mumbai and we all will fish together. You all are most welcome.
Prakash and Riyaz, it was a pleasure to fish with you.
Ken, the best way to avoid turtles and catch a fish is that you come to Mumbai and we will fish here in Powai. There are no turtles in Powai so what may come you will not catch a turtle. But on a different note do not start hooking crocodiles as they abound here          .
Regards,

Ali

Hey Ali,

Good to have you back. Thanks for the stuff mate. Give me the best way to use them. I have only managed to get replies that are straight out of an Agony Aunt column.

Will try and make it to Mumbai ASAP. But am pretty sure I will find the last turtle i the lake.

Guttered as usual! :)
Yes OB, I get tonnes of the stuff here-korean or Chinese made, but stink is as bad.
Shifted into bigger place, so may be able to light up a camping stove in the lawn and brew my version of blacang 'Idhar aao' to mix at the swim-I obviously cannot mix the blacang in the ragi in SWMBO's kitchen. Ken, are you listening? as for cheese, you need Danish blue or something smellier, dont hit the supernmarket for thast hideously expensive imported Danish blue, just get amchi Pizza Gorgonzola and let it rot in the outdoors, you may even get some maggots out of it, I'll get the gloves and gas mask and you can help us load up the hook bait? ;)
Best
Axx

Yeh Doc! I know what you mean. I once tried cooking some nice dried bombil at home when the missus was away. she came back hours later and swore there was a dead rat somewhere in the house. I have not had the guts to bring the stuff home since then. Have to eat it at a friend's place.

will try the cheese thing. If I can find a place to keep it. Could never do it with a danish blue, that stuff I love.

Ken,
The Chatni is to be mixed with your ground bait and the swallow me is for hook bait. :D
Use cake crumbs, overnight soaked oil cake and some poha(Boiled beaten rice or some cooked rice) mixed with mud from the tank you are fishing. The hook bait is white portion of the bread, one boiled poatato and some ghee.

Hope you will catch some fish this time.
Regards,

Ali

Don't let him anywhere near Powai, the lake will be full of them

Turtles are my friends. I love them. I can't live without them.

(If you can't beat them, join 'em)

A belated thanks to Ali Bhai and Santosh

Winging a few hours from my work i took off to meet Ali Bhai at powai, after pestering Ali Bhai with innumerable phone calls since i am not familiar with Mumbai, managed to reach Powai. Ali Bhai's trusty Jeeves or jawwad as he is known immediately ferried me to the machan. I was truly impressed by the whole setup.Clean surroundings impeccable setup and a fantastic view of the playground ie the waters. Ali Bhai immediately set me up on a rod while giving me an extremely erudite account of the technique etc. All together i had a lovely afternoon in the company of Ali Bhai, Santosh, Riyaz Bhai and Prakash discussing and listening to fishing lore. Really wanted to stay back for the night but duty called.

Thanks a ton Ali Bhai and Santosh
Hope to see you guys again

cheers
Jeebak
