In the middle of August with the Temp touching near 50 Degree centigrade we were twiddling our thumbs waiting for early Nov to start fishing again. And then we made that call to our friend in the Maldives and asked him about the weather. He said the monsoon was almost over but the sea was still high. The old adage “fortune favors the brave” popped up in my mind and before you know it we were in the Maldives. We fished for 4 days and what happened follows:-

Hi Riaz, Mayur,

The location is mainly around the Laviani Atoll which is an hour by sea plane from Male.

The tackle for Trolling was Penn 50W combo and Alutecnos 30W combo with Williamsons bill fish lures, yozuri bonito ( Trolling Plugs). Line was 65 Lb power pro braid

For light spinning We were using light Shimano spinning set up and quite an assortments of plugs

Fot Heavy spinning ( popping )for Gt we had Carpenter rods, Stella 10000 reels braid PE 8 nd various poppers made by Yozuri, Fisherman, and Halco.

Popping for GT is hard work . Non stop casting from rocking boats using 100gms plus poppers till you get hit. Once you are hit ... then its more of the fish that dictates terms. Then your knots have to hold , the rod shouldn'd break and most of all your arms and back should hold together .

Jeen
