Hey!

About the Fat Lip picture.

I notice that you have a quick changer/snap swivel on and then a hook attached to it.

Isn't this just adding to much metal to the end of your line. Carp are pretty metal shy and spit out bait the minute they feel anything unnatural. I always thought it was better to have the hook tied directly to the line.

Any thoughts...

The lake looks amazing now, I first went their in 01 to take membership but decided against it as then the lake was considered to be very polluted.

I will be taking membership this week paying 15k more than what was required to be paid in 01.

From what I have heard so far, every year the club is introducing Mahseer fingerlings & hopefully in few more years anglers in powai lake will also be seen using spoons, spinners & plugs. :D

hi ken,

I use the quick changer/snap swivel to make a rig of 4 hooks for catching mangur & tilapias on worm, works really well for me. :D apart from Mrigal, none of the other carps will take bait on this setup.

Way to go, Santosh [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]
The club needs more members ... Yaj ? Fred ? Godfrey ? Carl ?.. Are you listening ?
Powai was once regarded as an angler's paradise ... Time to change the "was" to "is" ... Don't you agree ?

HI guys,

great catch......the mumbaikar spirit seems to be on the top

Btw, guys......it looks like the govt is trying to bring all us NRI's back to the country. With the rupee getting stronger by the day, our savings have dropped
The Dirham has dropped to the lowest since the past 4 years that I have been in Dubai & all thanks to the Dollar (incidently the dollar & dirham are pegged together)

Ok ok.....so now who wins the argument ? Santosh or Yaj?

It was great meeting up with the Mumbai gang.
Thanks Vishal / Fred / Ali / Santosh / Yaj... Did i miss any one ???
Some great fish in there but some sad tactics employed to catch them.
Come on guys surely you can change things??
Fat lips or gobi is also called Korvae in the eastern parts. It is a scavenger and does not grow more than 6 to 8 ".
Just could not remember the name that day Santosh.

Owen

On a previous thread Bops said that he does not want the " tactics" discussed on this forum.
Since a counter argument/clarification is not allowed, it is only fair that criticism should be held back too.

Yaj.

No - it is not.
There are rules though - underweight fish are to be released or else a "fine" is levied. I believe the same holds true for the "monsters".
Unfortunately I have found that these rules are not followed. Mostly the catch is "permanent". "Fishing Tactics" play a role here as these "tactics" do not guarantee survival of the fish if released.
Yaj .. without getting into arguments .. as true anglers, some tactics must change .. some of us could make a start ...its not binding on us to follow the same tactics. Catch and release is the way to go .. perhaps a couple for the table and as many tilapias as you wish.

I would just like to say that the only carp I caught there(mrigal) was released in good condition and I intend to do so with all/any carp I catch. African catfish, tilapia and other "pest species" will not be released for obvious reasons.

Yaj.

Thanks Yaj!

Some sanity is needed at Powai. From what i hear and read it seems to be a haven fro the meat collectors.

Great fishing right now. But I can see it going going gone.

There is complete sanity in Powai. You say it is going going gone but the fact is it was gone and again with the effort of all the members it is improving day by day. Rest assure powai is going to be the no1 fishing destination in India.... 8)

Thanks Ali,

I lived in Bombay and remember how Powai was till just a short while ago. What you guys have done to bring it back to life is wonderful. But I really think that the toughest part of your endeavor is now.

Just imagine how incredible it would be is every fish caught was put back. Think of how much better the fishing would be then.

Once again thanks. :D

Guy's that fish was not caught by me, it was caught by Ali's driver.
There was another one of the same size caught on the lake last Sunday which i also checked out as i had never seen silver's that size before.

I was told i would not be able to catch anything with normal fishing methods at this time of year, and they were right.

Yaj, no discussion on tactics mate, sorry but that is not sport fishing. I would rather sit the whole day without a bite than resort to the norms at Powai.
Regards
Owen

No problem mate :-) I guess it will remain a case of Lilliput vs Blefuscu.

Hi Bobby,
Owen was at powai, but he did not do any foul hooking.. don't think those all who fish at Powai practice foul fishing..

Thanks to PV (prashant varma) .. I & Ali canceled our trip to west coast & instead headed to powai on saturday afternoon..Some pics for you guys..
