Hi folks,
Took my family - wife and two brats .They wanted to go to goa
Gavin came alone. His wife/son gave hath last minute.

Image

On the first day the only thing Gavin caught...as soon as we landed 1130am ...Tila..Image

Other than that we caught zero ...ragi,ragi/hing,atta,bread/butter/turmeric,wild,spinning, figs,spit,mud,worms..we tried everything .

We did see some croc dropping though...the boys were  fascinated ..shit trip ....
Image

Next day we decided to take off the Forbes Sagar at 0900am.

Gavin landed his first ever mahseer ...4 kgs...look at his teeth...Gavs...
Image

Meanwhile I took off in the coracle with Dereks rig, lunker lure and spinner4.
My first murral 2.5... :D with lunker lure...
Image
But then I took it off,was tangling up ...checked later with Derek...I was doing it wrong...connecting swivel direct to lure bend.

Got the next one with the blue fox 4 spinner. Big feller...4kg...
Image

Hooked the next on sp4 and drew it right upto the boat.
Lifted it slightly outa the water and it did a backflip  ,stuck the triple in my forearm, spat the hook out and took off.. No pic..

Meanwhile Gavin was busy and caught a 1.5kg and 2.5kg while we were away..

Went back to WASI Cottage for lunch and around 0400pm to headworks
My elder son Arjun caught a Mahseer and a Carnatic Carp there.
The boy is still floating in the air...
While I caught a Carnatic carp.

Had to leave sudenly, some miscreants had set the coracle adrift in Forbes.
Tried there for a while...had a few nibbles...but the mosquitoes were after our blood...

Back to cottage for some night tries and again the next morning...Zilch

These guys had better luck.

So till the next time and that elusive 20kg Rohu...

Jude

Hey Jude

Where did you take that picture of all those fish in the coracle? What's the story behind it?

Hey Jude - looks like you had a real good time.. :P Also very nice to see the juniors getting involved.. :D

Also, Can you elaborate on the fish in the coracle ?? Am no expert on the fishing in B'lore but so many fish for the pot looks a bit too much [smilie=grayball-intent.gif] They all look like mrigals and rohus in the 1kg to 2.5kg range..

Hi Jude,

The coracle with the fish does not belong to WASI. We have fibreglass coracles.

As Bops asked, what is the story???

As anglers concerned with conservation, we need to know and then act.

Is it the Malavalli lake which is on the way out heading towards the Mysore road?

Regards,
Alexis

Nice murrel Jude..

There are dozen of similar size fish in the coracle.. I guess netting was involved :(

Hi Guys,

thanks for all the good wishes ... :D

And really sorry if U got the wrong  message on the coracle fish.

Alexis, you right mate...
These contract fisherman were netting these fish on that huge lotus lake near Malavalli.

There is no way :x we would had sat quiet if this was a happening on our cauvery waters...
Most probably I would have set the boys  loose on them and also set  fire to their coracle

And thanks for deleting that repeat pic of mine with the murrel.
Actually it was Arjun's pic with the carp that didn't post.
here it is...

How far from Bangalore?

Jeen,

this is WASI cottage .... any of us WASI(Widlife Association Of South India) members can take you along as guest ..

135kms from Bangalore (3 hrs drive) and u get to live in this quaint fishing lodge.

But there are other private joints along the cauvery for the  big'uns.

Jude
