Went for an over nite trip to Tarbella Dam on the 19th. Tarbella Dam is he largest dam of Pakistan and is built on the Indus river. Once the Hub of Masheer ( TOR PUTITORA) now under siege from Carp, Snake Heads ( All introduced species), humans ( Poaching, Netting, Dynamiting, Commercial Fishing) and environmental change.
Any ways my Buddies Mobin, Kamran had left earlier at around nine in the morning in order to catch the live bait etc. Me and Ishrat were lucky to join them casue if we had been a litle late we wouldn't have managed to make it as the weather took a turn for the bad, as one has to travel 2 hours in a launch to get to the spot.
When I joined them they I hadn’t missed much as they had only caught a few eels. We were at a spot called Chandni Chowk. Then it started raining and we were confined to our tent. Didn’t get any thing; guess the water is still very cold.
Then on the advice of our boatman the experienced Gul Mohammad alias Guloo we packed our stuff and shifted to a new spot and WALA, it worked. Caught 2 common carp and a Masheer and many eels. And guess what the 6-7 kg carp was caught on live bait (Luriya), so was the Masheer as well.
I missed one Masheer, failed to land the Fish and one carp broke the line when was close to landing it, it was the case with Mobin as well.
But the situation at Tarbella is deteriorating day on day. All day we could c people dynamiting. God knows what’s the future of our waters
