The Pump House is fast turning into a legendary place. Turtles! Mulley! More turtles! And now a nice 1.2kg sol. As the indiangypsy put it "this one is the freak... bites when nothing else wants to"

We reached as early as we could... which was pretty late. The action was slow on the liver and guts. Then came the turtles. Managed to hook one of them. Cursed him and his family and then set him free.

The Gypsy then managed to get a few chilwa out of the water. We cut them into two and baited out hooks. I tried a two hook drop shot rig and baited it with the head and the body.

fifteen minutes later the reel screamed.. Thank God the drag was completely open. After a short sweet fight we got a nice Sol/murrel out.

The water was very clear. we saw big carp, couldn't really identify which ones. Tried a lot of atta flavoured with hing and garlic. Had the chilwa feasting but got none of the big ones to bite. (Any suggestions on what to do)

Missed the doc and his frogs. They would have worked for sure.

Can anyone identity the Sol. This is the type that i saw at the fishmonger's... it was 9kgs.

Hey Ken, you got back early?
looks like the punctatus.
There was this biggish guy we saw last week, cruising left of the snag? toward the long arm, where I tried to stalk him with the frog? was this where you got this one?
What colour were the eyes?
Great show, will join you with Gav.
Best

Not that one Doc. That was the daddy of them all.

Will get him one day.

The pumps get turned on again on the 11th for a couple of weeks. They are turned off again on the 25th.

But then there is Dadupur.... Gharmukteshwar.... Bhakra... Pong...

So many places. Such little time.

Sure thing Doc. As long as it is a day/day and a half I can go any weekend. (brave words) But we'll get the place checked out first. Heard that it was netted heavily and had very little fish now.

Hey Gavin,

Can you tell me what to do regarding the carp there. Tried atta flavoured with hing and garlic. The chilwa loved it but none of the big ones bit.

The water is pretty deep. I plumbed it at 10 feet. But the carp were visible so I would put them at around 4-5 feet.

The rig I used was a two hook type. One hook at the bottom and one just above the lead (2 small balls about 2gms each).

Is there a better or correct way. never really done this kind of fishing.

Ken, if the carp are feeding in mid water, I suggest you use a hair rig with the atta wrapped around a styro foam or cork ball. A lead weight should be attached 3-4 feet above the bait. When used like this the bait will suspend in mid-water. Adjust the distance of the lead weight from the bait according to the depth at which the fish are holding.

Bops

Worth a shot coz carp fight like crazy. But we'll have to wait a while. They put the pumps back on on the 11th and switch them off again on the 25th. That's when the Pump House saga will continue...

Earthworms work best! See if you can find them.

Hi Mken,

I think the bigger carp are not used to the bait u r offering and maybe wary of the hing and garlic.. Try using bread bait mixed with cream, coconut oil etc.. Use a little ground bait if required..
What kind of carp are there ??

Can't make out what carp they are. But Indiangypsy thinks they are Rahu. The question in my mind is that most of the time the pumps are on and the current is pretty fast, practically white water. Do Rahu live in such conditions?

Will catch one the next time and show you a picture. Studying everything on the net to understand them better. And all advice and suggestions are welcome.

Hi Ken,
Suggest that you use a float and size 8 hooks. Get the hooks resting 6" off the bottom. If they are Rohu they will take, same with any other carp. You can later vary the depth if bites are slow. All this provided the water is not wild. Just make sure that your bait is small and cylinderical or the rohu won't oblige.
In fastwater use a ledger setup with the lead weight about a foot from the hook.
Atta will work. If they don't take to hing and garlicas an attractor, try some sweeter smelling stuff like vanilla, strawberry or pistachio.
Go easy on the amount of attractor used in the bait.
Tight lines

Regards
Owen

Owen/Gav/Ken

Okay we got ourselves 4 hair rigs, varying ledger length, all 1 oz lead balls.all on no.8 hooks
float fishing-no 8 hooks
Will go with bread, coconut oil& gur as base and vanilla/strawberry/kewra as attractants, wonder which of the three attractants will works...

Chicken liver too, how can we disappoint the teenage mutant ninja turtles? ;)

for the carp i think if they aren't attracted by any bait try using plain Flour (Atta). It works sometimes the flavouring puts the fish off or try sweet corn!!!!
