hey guys
well its been some time since i wet my line and we left on thursday morning heading towards the river upstream of CFC galibore and downstream of haira.the water level has gone down a fair bit and the fishing looked to be good.Once we set up our tents i tried my luck casting a hook baited with some chicken fat and caught a murrel of around 3 and a half kgs(approx).that fish or atleast parts of it featured in our next three meals.
that evening we had a lovely sunset followed by the rising of a crescent moon. All the time we were reeling in small mahseer roughly between 2-3 lbs.even they put up a decent fight.Got a couple of bigger bites missed them.the rest of the night wasnt too productive fish wise as i was occupied as it was my turn with the pot and pan.
the next morning i was up early and fished for some bigger ones.It was one of those days when you just sit by the water side holding a rod feeling the tension coz of the water current praying fervently for that bite which never came.
It was just too hot to do anything during mid-day and spent it lazing away at camp.In the evening i caught a silver masheer of around 4 or 5 kgs at the rapids. It took my ragi and fairly raced away.Brought him back took a snap and released him.
That night i sat by the rocks and was on alert waiting for a fish to take my bait.I'd read the thread on leaving the drag loose and tightening it up slowly and tried giving it a shot.the result? well a fish of around 5 kgs took my bait and my index finger feeling the line got scorched as the fish stripped a lot of line of at record speed before i could react. It wasnt to bad after that reeled him back in.another silver masheer the similarity between this and the fish i caught earlier was striking.
As i was walking back to camp i was startled to see animal eye-shine reflecting back of my MAGlite,it was too small to be deer or wild boar,on closer approach it turned out to be a night jar settling down on the sand.i could've touched and my fingers were mere inches away from it.A really pretty bird complete with mottled plumage and whiskers.
the next morning having caught enough masheer i switched to lighter tackle with chicken innards as bait.Caught some carnatic carp , three in number weighing in between 1 and 2 kgs.Dropped them all back in.A very interesting incident occured at this point having reeled out my line , there was still some bait on my hook and kite flew down and took it. the hook got embedded in its left claw and it dropped rather awkwardly on to the ground. After some maneouvering with a bedsheet we managed to get the hook out and watched the bird fly off shaken but not stirred.
The monkeys around camp were total pain in the A^& . Around 25 of them raided our camp and flicked all the rice and tomatoes.
we left back to bang tired worn out but with memories to last a life time.
Tackle Used
for the masheer:-
rod- shimano 12' surf rod
reel- shakesphere alfa, loaded with line of BS 30 lbs
for the carp and murrel:-
rod-ugly stick 7'
reel-shakesphere catera with line of BS 15 lbs

the pics will come around in a day or two. They're on my uncle's cam.
This is my first report and i hope i made for interesting reading.
adios amigos and keep hookin them

Good show Aaron!!

Murrel on chicken fat?? Bottom fishing? Have never tried that myself.

Landing 10 lbs Mahseer can be good fun on lighter gear. The problem is that all of us are looking for the big ones!!

Hey Jude !
Glad you had some luck with lead in the city matket area.
Well done Aaron, but note that Fred only believes you when you post pictures
Did you fish the rock face at Moslehalla or scramble over to the rocks in the middle of the river.
Who is this uncle of yours ?

dunno guess its just carp and rohu n'stuff..wont be taking any heavy equipment...couple of telescopics , light line...should be fun...i guess ground baiting wud be impossible for me...so i'll have to just use the bread bait..
will get along some worms..and probably a spinner and my ugly stik for some murrel..

Went there on 11th, 12th and the 13th. Caught some karnataka carps, a few black mahaseer nothing over 2kgs. At the Crocodile rocks saw a shoal of big ones going for chilwa, the gilli, selvaraj, and myself tried every thing in the book, for two whole days. The crocs were having a whale of a time. Tried ragi, scented, added hing, less hing, tried spinners, rubber lure (similar to the chilwa), the fish just plain missed Owen uncle`s presence. The water leval was too low to travel over the rapids at Haira, the gilli(s) are just too plain lazy to go to M`shella. Better luck next time.
