Does any of you know whether the Stanley reservoir in Tamil Nadu holds Mahseer?

Stanley Reservoir is one of largest fishing reservoirs in South India. :D :D :D :D
Its source of water is the River Cauvery, and the water is retained by the Mettur Dam.
Its total capacity is more than 90,000,000,000 cubic feet (90 tmc ft).

The Stanley Reservoir is one of the largest of its kind in the world.
It was completed in 1934. The total length of the dam is 1700 meters. The Mettur Hydro Electrical power project is also quite large.
The dam, the park, the major hydroelectric power stations and hills on all sides make Mettur a good tourist attraction. :D

An aunt that knows the difference between a Mahseer and a Catfish. Gotta meet this lady.
Seriously guys even at Hognekal i would rate your chances of seeing a mahseer as slim to non existant.
Do you have any info that says different Bops ?

I have seen mahseer just above the hogenekal falls so I know they are present in that part of the river. I was broken off once by a very big fish when using a piece of chilwa as bait, it may have been Mahseer or a big catfish.

I haven't fished below the falls up to Stanley so I can't comment on that but am trying to gather info.

Are you sure that they were mahseer that you saw above the falls Bops ?
There are lots of Carp and Kural in those waters.
I have seen the catch brought in by fishing nets on more than one occassion, but did not see any mahseer in them.
I have fished above and below the falls twice, never caught any mahseer, even the locals i spoke to. did not seem to know much about mahseer, so i am a bit surprised to hear this.
It is an awesome place though, and one that our budding anglers should try out, as there is no fishing license involved there.
Regards
Owen

I saw chilwa being chased close to the bank by fish which looked very similar to Mahseer so unless the carps are hunting chilwa they'd have to be mahseer.

I doubt they'd allow people to the same place I went to five years ago since there's a checkpost gate there now and only forest dept people are allowed inside. This is about two km above the falls.
