Can the experienced hyderabad anglers let me know the various fishing spots available in Hyderabad and nearby areas?
I have tried fishing in Kapra lake, and Shameerpet lake, and am aware that fishing is permitted in Durgum Cheruvu.
Which are the other locations, and what is the procedure for procuring permission/license, if applicable?
Any pointers in this direction would be highly appreciated.
TIA,
regards,
rk

Hi modakyahya,
I have never fished Hussain Sagar. By the looks of it, it is nothing but a bowl of chemical waste effluent soup. The stench is unbearable during some seasons. Other more experienced anglers from Hyderabad will throw more light on this.
BTW, we are planning for a tentative fishing trip this Saturday (24-11-07) PM me if interested to join us.

Hi Rk,

There are five spots are there around hitech city

1.Durgam chervu
2.Pragathi nagar lake (huge one)
3.One lake near hitech city railway station (One big story about that lake l'll tell u later when we meet)
4&5 .Two lakes near miyapur( i have to check fishing is allowed or not)

Searching for any fishing spot best can be searched by using google earth.

Two weeks back i have been to pragathi nagar lake.I didn't catch anything but fellow anglers were successful.(Rohu & catla)

Instead of hussain sagar , this pragathi nagar lake is ideal spot for your 24th Nov outing. One particular community in that locality charges 20 per person. They will take care of the on lookers also where in Hussain sagar public will be more than a nuisance other wise you will select a place which is inaccessible for public. More over that fish are not good for pot if you catch anything.Main fish in hussain sagar is african cat fish.

My best advice is go to pragathi nagar lake. It's 2Km from JNTU college of engineering KPHB.

PM me if you need any info

Hi chandra sekhar,
Our plan for the saturday was to go to Shamirpet. I cannot go near Hussain Sagar. The last time I tried (not for fishin though) I had trouble breathing and the urge to throw up was too much :)
Durgam Cheruvu is also a pot of sewage - all the sewage from Jubilee hills and Banjara hills gets dumped there it seems, or that is what the local dailies report. The governemnet is setting up a level three filtration plant there. So, maybe once that is operational, we can fish there safely.
Will check up with highwayman and other two colleagues who will be joining me this saturday about Pragathi Nagar and will PM you.
Anyways, thanks for all the info.

Hi,
Bops got it.
This belongs to a generation much older than the SMS lingo,
standard email lingo during the early 90s.
Maybe force of habit on my part.

I can understand the confusion that acronyms create. Just imagine
how much I had to control myself when our HR announced the launch of PMS in our organisation!!! (they meant Performance Monitoring System).
On another occassion, seeing the main meeting hall occupied, on enquiring with a colleague, I was told that Delivery was haivng PMS - and they meant the Delivery Organisation was having Project Management Studies
:D

I hate Management and its Gurus .. According ot me the fluffers just went to a fancy English school , then buy someone elses management book ,, and spend their time transalting the book once again in english ...saying the same things fluffing things .. in a different way ... probably knowing very well that the that the fluffer who wrote the book did the same.. Guess that explains the PMS and dilivery shit

Bloody parasites who want to make money just talking someone elses bullshit and not working

Management!!! That the job I want. And all the perks that go with it. All the workshops, brainstorming sessions and the rest.

Basically I think faffing through life is the way to go. So you can say I am totally envious of them.

i was with rk and his two colleagues and altho we did have good time at shamirpeet lake - which is too far away from hyd - all that we manged to catch was a small finger size rohu... that too at some small lakes adjacent to shamirpet.. we shifted to the main lake and just cudnt get any good bites.. it all felt like small nibbles and finally caught one small lady finger size fish... i guess we hv to try some other spot...at Secret lake, catching fish is a guarantee (talapia's) though. in about 5 hours you can end up catching around 50 talapias easily -- any other fish here is extremely rare.. so back to the main question -- where to fish around hyderabad ?
