Hi,

Went for fishing w/my 5 year old. Did not catch anything, but we had fun. (this is our 2nd fishing trip and we r not v good at it...)

Also learned a few things
1: Do not get excited too much when your line is pulled, it could simply be a debree pulling your hook in the water current... :D
2: Peacock feathers make a good float...we could not detect "bite" w/our Cone shaped Bobber
3: Earthworms are the Best! (people catching fish were using earthworms)
4: Striking is most the important Art to learn...we lost 2-3 fish as we were too late...

Hoping to get lucky the 3rd time... (on our next fishing trip)...

My Kid learning the ropes...

Watching the bobber...

My kid taking a closer look at a fish caught by people fishing next to us.

Just having some fun...

Hi Ramesh,

Welcome to the forum, I guess I missed your introduction.

Thank you for sharing your trip report. This is something I think every angler should encourage every other angler to do irrespective the outcome of the trip. It took me 4 fishing trips to the sea to catch my first decent sized salt water fish and took me quite a few to get a very small sized murrel from pune waters. Tilapia is a relatively easier fish to catch and have some specific feeding zones during the monsoons.

The first point is so true. Some of the things pulled out from pune waters are embarassing enough to not mention here. I'm glad you got only debris. But true it takes time to detect a bite and a peacock feather or any wood that floats. Balsa is a decent option. Earthworms are the best but they're not found all year round easily and need to be cultured as finding them is not an easy task. It's easier to find cockroaches but I've never had the courage to deal with one of them. In this case I've found chapati and aata being effective. some people use all kinds of additives like asafoetida, ghee, cheeze, ajwain and the list is endless... none the less chapati and aata (wheat dough) seem to bring maximum results all year round. Striking is an art for sure. That is why trying a handline without a sinker in the beginning helps I guess. But none the less a float with a stopper always helps. You need to find ground zero. tie a sinket to the end of your line after attaching a float and no stopper. For a stopper you can use a piece of rubber band.once you throw the line the sinker touches the bottom and the float lets you know the depth of the water and the amount of line thats in the water. Not exact but an estimate. using the estimate attach a stopper a little above the float and you can adjust to a point where the float stands. This is difficult to get in the start but once achieved bite detection becomes easy. The reason being when the fish bites you can see the float twitching nd when it's going away with the bait the float dips. That's when you strike.

Hope this helps. Keep sharing.

Regards,
Omesh
