Last year i went for my first angling outing to the beautiful valley of Tirthan. Tirthan valley is the gateway for Great Himalayan National Park, is situated along the river Tirthan known for it's trout fishing. and is at an altitude of 6000 feet.
But first a small detour to the Kullu valley, also known as the valley of Gods and is an gateway to one of the most popular tourist destinations, Manali. Kullu valley is situated along the great river Beas and is at an altitude of 4000 feet.
Coming back to the Tirthan valley. From Kullu you need to drive back towards Mandi and just after the Aut tunnel take a left instead of right where you came from. You will see the sign board pointing you to the way on the left.
There are not many options to stay one of the pioneers of the home stay is the Raju Bahti home stay who by some bloggers have been ranked best, and there is the Himalayan trout house.
Raju Bhati would charge you something around 3800 to 4000 for all meals and stay and trout house would be around 3000 for the stay in mud huts including breakfast only. There is one more good option The river side resort which is comparatively new and would cost you 2000-2200 all inclusive ( all meals and stay)
So I choose the River side resort, It's seems to be a small island with the River Tirthan on the both sides, Though the backside the river was dry and the water level was not much.
This is how you reach the river side resort, not very comfy mind you.
You need Permit form the HP Fishers department, Cost for that is Rs 100 Per day per Rod/line. There are certain rules as well you have to let go any fish smaller than 200 Grams and you can catch 8 fishes a Day .Still Pretty affordable don't you think.
