I think there seems to be some renewed interest in the WASI lake especially after all the big rohu Pratap, Owen (and gang) have caught. Its a beautiful place with great fishing and serves a conservation purpose as well.

I thought Id post some pics of the lake itself as well as of fish caught there so that anyone interested in visiting the lake which generates conservation funds for WASI, can actually see what it looks like. The more anglers vist this lake the more it will be protected from the funds they generate.

Please do the same , to get more anglers fishing there, if you have any pics that might show off this lake, its surroundings and its fish.

Post subject:  Wassi Lake

Looks amazing! Hopefully going down to Wassi in Feb', so will post any pics then. Could you please advise - what's the best tactic for the carp? Is it just Grass carp?

Hi Jim,
We caught most of the rohu fishing with float tackle (12 to 15 lb mono), small carp hooks size 9 i think, the floats themselves were hand made from ball pen refills and foam.
Many of the other anglers use the ledgering method with lines between 15 to 25 lbs. Clear, green or grey work best. Hook size same as above.
The bait used was ragi laced with asifoteda and cummin seed powder (don't worry the guards will make it for you, just carry good quality ragi 1 kg for 2 anglers per day should do.
A small can of asifoteda should be enough for 2 to 4 Kgs of ragi.
200 gms of cummin seed powder is also sufficient for a 2 to 4 kgs ragi base.
Use carp rods of 2.25 to 2.50 lbs TC or ledgering rods of 40-80 gms cast weight.
For lead we used spiral lead mounted on stiff silicon tubing, and held a foot or so away from the hook by rubber shock beads at either end of the lead which are kept in place with power gum or rubber bands.
Most of us have been tying the main line directly to the hook.

For the grass carp, probably float tackle with bread paste or floating crust might work. Although there are quite a few sizeable grass carp in the lake, only 1 has been taken so far. Even ragi fished shallow with a float might work, as the fish in the lake have been fed ragi regularly for the last 6 months or so.
Hope this is helpful.
