Hey Guys,

Been trying for some sharks over here in Australia from the beaches.

Fished with 150lb wire leader through to a 100lb mono leader (3m) and a spanish mackeral head as bait. Usually I will throw in a few pieces of fish to create a scent trail and then it doesn't take long for the big ones to show up. Fights usually last 20 minutes or so using a shiamno beast master 13 foot surf rod and 80lb power pro braid. The last one we landed had a 6 minute initial run taking nearly 300m of line from a shimano twin power with the drag nearly locked. impressive stuff. will post video soon

one evening I saw a sting ray approach which was around 150kg. Probably a mistake to cast the bait to it! After ten minutes I realised I would be busy for the next 2 hours at which point the 100lb leader touched a rock and broke.

more coming soon, All the best, Scott

fantastic.. that what im talking about.. .. to release i suppose you cut the wire leader and get the shark back to the water and let it go.. the hook will rust of in some short time..

Got this massive stingray last night. It was hard to estimate the weight but without a doubt it would have weighed much more than a 100kg!

Goodness gracious me!!

I thought you stabbed a giant squid at first :) That's an awesomely big ray mate. It will definitely clock the 100 kg mark.

The sharks?? What bait did you use for them??

Cheers- DeZZ

hi,

Ali, we use barbless circle hooks so sometimes it is possible to remove the hooks. if not I cut the trace as close as possible to the hook. Then it won't be long before it falls out.

Dezz, bait is spanish mackeral head from a 4-5kg fish. Lots of blood and oil for good scent trail. Its funny you should mention squid as there was a dolphin feeding on squid right under the jetty. absolutely laying into them; result was massive ink patches the size of a car and probably a few less squid in the sea..quite impressive to see

all the best, Scott

Went out yesterday and managed a good queenfish from the besch on a silver stickbait, along with a small GT. Later we got into a couple of small sharks which was nice.

Hi Hamour,

reel was a shimano twin powere with 65lb power pro. Drag can go up to 24kg I believe. We cranked it up and up so it was pretty tight eventually but not sure the setting exactly.

all the best, Scott

did u go through the shimano areo wave 3pc 13 ft rods? graphite?
the small guides are designed for braid .Aussies cast really far with them.

Hi Mate, Its a beastmaster Ax STC 130M. Its seven piece and designed for beach casting with a Multiplier/overhead reel ideally. But can work pretty well with a fixed spool reels...the smaller rings are just a bit of a drawback when fishing thick 100lb leaders but again its not a great problem if the leader is attached to the braid with an fg knot.

All the best, Scott

The big lemons and bulls are nice but your oversize dogfish (Zebra shark) is so pretty.
Nice one.
