yesterday i went to alake where lot of catlas and rohu is there,

i used the bait once told by ali bhai in hs post,
100g roasted grams,
50g rice,50g sugar,6 cardammom pieces....all powdered mixed some thos 50g powder with white part of 1 bread.

i got small tilapias, even though lot of big fishes (5-8kgs)were splashing around and on the casting spot.

i need to know what mistakes i did that i was unable to catch a single big fish(around 2 kg).

the rig i used, a treble hook just above it a lead wire where i keep bait and a peacock feather as float.
expecting good sugestions as not to regret on the next time...

Change your rig. I am sure you will catch lot of fishes by using correct methods.

Regards,

Ali.

Hi Basharath,

From what little knowledge I've gathered no one one rig can catch you all the fishes. The reason being we target multiple fishes. Some predator fish strike their bait (Ex: Kingfish, MJ, Barracuda, etc...) whilst there are some which feed on crustaceans, algae, worms and moss and their mouths are fairly small or rounded (Ex: carps, perch, roach pearl spot, rabbit fishes ect... There are some which ambush their prey and gulp them down (Ex: Grouper) So you have to match your rigs to the fish you target and you have to anticipate the water conditions to know which fish you could probably be dwelling in those conditions. Local folks will at times provide you with this info. The link below should assist you with the rigs you can use for certain species. However, you really have to experiment with your rigs. But keep your rigs as simple as possible.

Hope this helps?

Preferably use single hooks which makes the release more effective

@ teritex, a rig or rigs specially for rohu, catla and goldfish as they are in adundant where i fish..

as for murrel and predatory fishes i use spinner and spoons ,they work fine.

@ali bhai, can i use(in the above mentioned bait)wheat flour instead of bread as to make it hard.

Isn't this topic in the wrong place? It should be in the baits, tackle and tactics segment.
Mods to kindly do the needful.
My beef is that I keep looking for trip reports and end up disappointed.

Regards,

Dev
