Hello Friends,

As the saying goes, we as anglers are a breed apart, we all are born anglers. The waters, be it lake, river or the ocean is the place we belong. But I am sure every one of us here has or had a mentor or a person who was instrumental in igniting the spark.

I was fortunate to meet such a person at a early age. I was only 8 and he was over 50.

My Kids are no different, they too have the same genes. And I am blessed to be their mentor. The boys are good learners and I am sure will soon beat their father at what he does best.

Off late I am not posting any of my trip reports, same fish and similar location. But this one is special, for as a father who loves angling there is no other pleasing sight than watching his boys enjoying every moment of being close to the water and getting inspired by their father.

The trip was not a usual hardcore fishing, but rather letting the boys decide what they wanted to do. Crabbing, surf fishing, float fishing, spinning with small lures, cast nets for shrimp and of course making sand castles and jumping around in ankle deep water & singing, I love to go to the beach....
Some pics of my recent trip with the future members of Indian Angler and now my best angling buddies (The Boy’s are already planning the next one.)

Regards,

Santosh

Your younger one has got those naughty looks. Better give him the tackle sooner else he will be fishing for pretties around.

GOD BLESS.

Great Santosh,

Nothing better than family spending time together. Kudos for introducing them in the ways of wild. They are the future owners as famous Indian saying goes "We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children".

@Aditya, Thanks mate.

@Prashant, I have purchased a beautiful piece of land on Mumbai - Goa road touching an estuary, haven’t fished there but the locals say that the place has MJ, barra, small rawas and lil up river mahaseer and Mully, will be buying a canoe with 2.5 Hp OB and will take my kids every month once the plantation & house is ready.

@ Mario, Thanks barra king :)

Thanks gautam :)

MM, you bet they are here and they are very good. ;)

Inder, so true. It was also very pleasing to see the boys spending time outdoors, inventing their own games like find a green pigeon, wild dove, catch small crabs running on the seashore. Very refreshing & innocent... "we borrow it from our Children" some good things that I got to learn.

Thanks Ashok.. :)

Regards,

Santosh

Wonderful!
This is the kinda stuff your kids will cherish forever.

What rod were you using for the light fishing from the jetty? Looks to be perfect for medium-heavy freshwater spinning.

@ Inder, Any time buddy, I would say you should carry more that your tent & tackle. You would love to sit at night in one of the cashew plantations nearby.

@ Ali, thanks mate. The rod I am using with the float is a 8.6 ft 8 to 12 lb Cabela's Tourney Trail rod, the other rod I am using on the jetty for spinning is a Tsunami 3 pc, 7 ft 10 – 20 lb rod.

Thanks Raj, the crabs were good eating too. :D

Thanks Omesh

Santosh,

Heartiest congratulations on a fabulous trip with your kids. I am sure they will cherish the memory of these moments forever.

As you rightly pointed out, every one of us had a mentor who ignited the spark in us, I too was fortunate enough to have a father, who was wise enough to give me a vision and as you said, ignited the spark. With the passing of time, some time I realize that I am forgetting every thing from my childhood, except, the quality time spend with my father beside a water body or in search of a game.

Still remember the morning dew, glistering on the blades of grass, reflecting the multitude of colors of the rising sun, the cool wind of fresh morning ruffling our hairs, the ground baiting, the preparation of bait, the old Calcutta rod with a drum reel, our home maid bamboo rods, the great runs and the ensuing commotions. I even remember clearly the sounds and smells of those times. The smell of cordite, and the ensuing quaking of million of birds, is as fresh as the morning of those days.

I am sure, your kids will also carry the same memories of these outings and take refuge behind them in their adverse time and pass the flame of same passion to the next generation as we have been given.

These are the torch bearer of our flame and anglers of future, in making.

Regards,

Ali.

hi santosh.. thought my post was there ..on your trip with your boys .. but i suppose it did not show cozthe lights went out around then.. any way.. its super .. to see you and your kids have so much fun.. at this age they are like ur best friends , and ur like their hero.. what they learn from you now they wil stick to for the rest of their lives and wont go goofing off doing unwanted things when theyre older, but rather do wholsome things like angling.. i thank my grandpa ...for introducing me to nature , and angling.. for my dad it was the other way around.. i introduced him.. still its great when guys bond over fishing and outdoors..

btw .. good u brought up the super moon issue , as u mentioned .. its gonna be the closest (lunar perigee) 221,556miles appox, from the earth) newspapers say expect some natural calamity..

anyway .. to all the guys going out along the coast for a fish duing the full moon phase .. please be careful ... and be safe .... the fishing should be good , but the tides may very well be treachrous , especially if one is on rocks or sandbars.. so all fellow anglers , please be careful and stay safe...

That’s great Adolph,
I am sure you must be knowing it, but let me still tell you that the difference between these young ones and anti-social elements is that you can negotiate with the anti-social elements and not with your young kids. Its one of the pleasures of life that we must cherish.

Good luck and god bless.. Santosh
