Nagarjunasagar located at a distance of 150km from Hyderabad. The journey began at 4am in the morning and we reached the spot around 6:30am.

The beautiful view of lake

It was one of the very exciting fishing trip, we have caught two decent sized Catlas weighed in range of 8-12kg. It is one of the best fight scene i had ever seen so far. The first catla was caught by my uncle and the equipment used are feeder rig with treble hook, small rod with charkhi, and konda as bait.

Image

Second catla was caught by a relative from uncle side whose name is Naser, he used spinning reel and 5 or 6 feet rod, single hook with konda as bait.

Image

By the time we caught these 2 big catlas, we feel it enough and then decided to go to canal to try for rohus and murrels but it was unsuccessful. In the canal i missed the luck 5 times straights :( .

BTW i and my cousing had some fun in posing with the catlas as if we have caught it :lol: :lol: :lol:

Me with first catla

Me with second catla after its internal organs were removed for a long drive home.

When we reached home the question arise as to how to cut these big catlas. Feminine population were against cutting them in home and repeatedly warned us not to cut them due to fishy smell so we took them to local fish market to cut. after it was reduced to eatable meat each fish weight 6kg and we distributed them among 6 family members :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Hi arish!!!!!

Nice fishes there and a nice location too......i wish i could get a chance to fish there.

well i too use konda(rice husk) in nagpur for bait and groundbait. It's more effective for katla if it is used with oil cakes soaked overnight in water ( according to my personal experience).

thanks for sharing

regards
manish

Come on Manish, why are you waiting just pack up for Nagarjunasagar! Not only did angling make a wonderful trip to Nagarjunasagar but the surrounding places such as ethipothala falls and dam will also make a great trip!

Thanks again for sharing your view on bait, as you said you use rice husk but we use wheat husk :P

@Raj: Thanks :D

Wonderful catch, and I used to think we can never catch a catla with single hooks :)

I must take some lessons from your uncle and his senior anglers team.

Next time I am in Hyd, we go to Nagarjuna Sagar ... and thank god I have access to some restricted zones on Lake which are rarely fished :)

@Sayed bhai: Thanks :P

Im learning every bits from them and it great to be among these experts! :D

@Manish: It too early to call me mentor :shock: im still a newbie and have not caught a single fish so far! better you be my mentor and i be your guide :D

25 bodies within 100km radius sounds good! In Hyderabad there are currently half a dozen water bodies suitable for fishing within 100km radius :(.

@Luqman bhaiya: Thanks :P

Negative feelinng will always buries the surprise. We never says that this will not happen, that will not happen! We just keep trying and surprise is always in store for us!

My uncle and Naser bhai are known to bring many surprises, Naser bhai once caught 4kg rohu using a single hook and half inch earthworm!

When next time you are coming to Hyderabad, don't forgot to bring for me coins and currency notes from your foreign tours for im also a collector of coins and notes :wink: :P

Hi Arish
nice catch !!.
how did you mix and prepare the bait ..please share the mix secret. share some pictures of the bait ..
and try to get a large cooler box ( a simple thermocool one is enough) along with some frozen ice packs the blue liquid sealed block ones ...
that way you can keep fish cool on long journeys and also the smell contained ...take some lemon too just too to keep smell at bay.
cheers.

Thanks Ali bhai and GRC :D for taking time to watch these long videos, they are bit boring in the beginning but in the second half you have seen completely different style of fishing technique, method and equipments used.

I think many of you have forgotten this thread http://www.indianangler.com/viewtopic.p ... =hyderabad

A friend of mine used to do all that and more. He would gut the fish and clean it with mineral water at the shore itself. Then he would throw the waste into the water for ground bait. He would then marinade the fish and put them in the ice box. That way you have no drip, no smell and the fish would be ready for the pan when we got home. Also the ground bait would attract more fish to the area. 8)
Catch and release works fine too, if you are hungry just buy your fish at the local market! :lol:

The video clarity for some reason is not very good. It is an awesome video and the hyderabadi language is nice to hear after such a long time! last heard this lingo was when I was in bangalore! What I could see is handlining and towards the end a stick... arish could you please make a small write up on how the tackle used works... as in the reel with the spool is being taken care of by one person the other person is taking care of the fish.... now in the end there was a stick! when and where and how was it attached? and its nice to see the line didnt break what kind of line was being used?

All in all it was a nice watch and would like to understand more of this primitive method of angling!

Regards,

@adolph: That sounds good, we too throw the internal organs and clean the fish in the lake itself however cutting and marinating the fish on the spot depends on our mood.

C & R is what i believe the most, and i also suspect buying fish from the market as to whether those fish are from clean water or dirty water. So if im hungry i'll take catch for the pan and release the excess and if im not hungry i'll release them with a high passion :)

@Sayed bhai: Shukriya :P

Hyderabadi Baatan Aisich Bolte :lol:

(Back to Sasooral) Even you have a Charminar Connection, Insha Allah! we'll catch up first before we catch the biggies for sure :D

@Omesh: Yes the clarity is not good since it was a mobile phone camera next time we'll catch them up with a good Lense :)

You must have thoroughly enjoyed listening to Hyderabadi lingo. Few of the popular and funny words are

1.Hau,Hao - yes
2.Nakko, Nai - no
3.Yaaro - dude
4.Baigan,Haula - fool
5.Miyan - gentelman

Insha Allah! i'll make a step by step writeup along with pics and video soon about Hyderabadi style of fishing!

that stick is called sing ki chadi as you could find the details about this rod in the thread link i posted in my last post above :P

here i only have one close up shot about this rod
