It was a Friday evening, I was at a family dinner…………..
Was I really there is the question…. NO I was on the phone - SMS with MM and the Indian Gypsy, BB chat with SAM….

It was finalized and Sunday morning trip was scheduled to the Pump House.
My second trip to PH and I was confident about my account opening catch this time.

8am was the time for Departure from Dhruveeeeee’s place and I was ready by 7:30, Sam and MM were the guys who got us late and reached at 8:45. Being my first time I did not know there was one more thing that I had to do in the morning ( GIVE DHRUV A WAKEUP CALL )

Finally 9:30am we hit the road. Some Colas + water were picked on the way.
Pump House Canal – we were there and it was around 12:00………………..

Action started as we hit ( picked our spots )
Sam was the luckiest guy if we talk about the bites as in the first hour itself he got about 6-7 serious knocks.
But the fish were smart on a Sunday afternoon as the spot had been fished over the last couple of days and none of them was in a mood to come outta the waters. Froggys, liver and spinners all were tried at different spots.

First fish for the day was pulled out by Dhruvee a sol and for the rest of us hope & patience got a much needed boost for we thought “we too can”
Second fish was Sam’s a beautiful sol again. Good fight he got and it meant that he was not moving from the spot..

Then was my big moment at the PH as I hooked my first fish there, It was 5 mins of total confusion “ is it there or has it gone” As the froggy got stuck in the grass, Sam next to me took my rod and said “ you missed it buddy”
I started to reel in the frog which was coming towards me much quicker than I was reeling in and that’s when there was a splash……….. The fish was there and it was swimming directly towards me, hooks were swallowed but the froggy shell was floating on the line.
It was a good fight and finally we landed the beauty (a sol again). It was a great evening.

Drhuv caught another sol before we packed and started the journey back.
Some Poori aaloos with mango pickle in the car ended the lovely day trip.

Hi, First & foremost my congratulations for a successful trip, there can be no better outcome for a fresh water fishing expedtion then to land Sols or Murrels as we call it. The best way to land sols is using spinners # 3-4 on a slow retrive, though frogs too have been highly sussessful in weedy conditions, because these fishes are voraciouly predatory in nature, closed water bodies in habitated by them will have less of other varieties esp Carps... But as I said its most rewarding to land a Murrel, not to forget its gourment value...simply superb...keep it up, the Pump Hose is gaining a legendry status on this forum...

Finally,

Hard work and persistence always pays. I was following your journey in the alleys of angling. Well done and a very nice fish. The absence of fish, the initial frustration and the utter confusion when one start fishing, makes the first good catch very special.

I am really happy for you. Heartiest congratulations for a very special catch.

Regards,

Ali. :D
