Has anyone tried Siswan check dam? Its approx. 30 kms from Chandigarh.
If yes, let me know which fish is available there and what bait and method you tried...

Thanks - MM

This is the same dam on the way to Badi ( HP) using the back road? Get to Mullapur and make a right. I recall driving by it and had the same question. There is a village next to it and you can ask them or ask the Punjab forest guys. It looks like a great place by the way have a big stick or something with you the place is known for Snakes ( slithery ( safe) and then the two legged ones . Good luck hope some other members can chime in

Call these guys Siswan Lodge or ask them maybe they could assist

This area is well known to me as I used to hunt there in the good old days when it was permissible to do so.

We confined our hunts to the winter (as per the law) and we never, repeat never saw any snakes despite traversing terrain that would normally be full of them - nor did our dogs ever encounter them despite sticking their noses into every bush!!

My point is that if you wish to fish or traverse the area, winter (Dec.-March)
is the perfect time .

I had heard of the Siswan Dam when it was first built and always wanted to have a recce and see if it was fishable.

However, those were early days and I doubt if any fish were in the water.

Presumably, by now these would either have been stocked or been seeded during the monsoons by nature.

It will be interesting to see what lies under the waters there!

Thats great you hunted there unfortunately now that entire are is being taken over by land mafia the forest is pretty much going to be gone a high way is being built from Kurali Mulapur to Baddi the land prices due to this highway and Chandigarh proximity are through the roof. Know it because have family who live there. Snakes was mentioned by friends who drive frequently through there to Baddi and encountered snakes sunning a lot. Funny thing due to safety concerns they never drive back at night on that road. When I drove by it saw quite a few birds Kingfishers, et al at the dam.

Also there is another check dam Mirzapur little further or West off this dam. Enjoy the place folks they will be gone soon...

Good Luck
